Here are some of the most popular cycling destinations around Prague that might inspire your ride!
The A1 cycle path is one of the most popular cycling routes in Prague. It follows the left bank of the Vltava and later the Berounka river starting from Lahovice, which is beneath the Barrandov bridge, through Černošice to Dobřichovice and Hlásná Třebáň.
You will cross over the Vltava and meet up with the river Berounka, which heads in a mellow southern easterly direction. You will then keep the Berounka company for the vast majority, passing through quaint Czech villages where yet again you will gain a taste of rural Czech life.
The Vltava and Berounka are beautiful rivers, which are full of wildlife, so you won’t be short of interesting things to see. You follow the Berounka for 15 km before reaching the final destination, Karlstejn Castle.
Veltrusy is most renowned for its beautiful English park, one of the oldest parks of this type in Europe, most inviting for romantic strolls. In the middle of the park is a charming château, which ranks with the most beautiful baroque buildings in the country.
The castle and park are quite the ideal destination for all who delight in gardens and beautiful natural scenery.
If you fancy a longer ride, about an hour and a half, then Okoř castle and the local restaurant are the perfect place to visit. The restaurant has a summer terrace so you can soak up the sun. The Okoř castle ruins are about 15 k from the center of Prague and are surrounded by picturesque countryside.
The Castle ruins are easily accessible, without any steep hills, and are fun to explore.
A longer trail with some important monuments. A ride through Prague does not represent an orientation problem. The cycling trail in Zbraslav crosses to the right side of the Vltava River and winds along it to Kralupy nad Vltavou.
Behind Prague, there is a cycle path under numerous viewpoints, from which you can take nice pictures of the massive flow of the Vltava river.
Just behind the bridge in Kralupy nad Vltavou, take notice of the gear wheel from the hydro power plant in Mířejovice. An interesting feature is the arrow gears patented by French manufacturer André Citroën. This type of gearing is still used in Citroen gearboxes and is also reminiscent of the brand’s logo.
Do not miss Nelahozeves Castle near Kralupy. This picturesque castle is one of the most important late Renaissance residences in Bohemia. Today it belongs to the Lobkowicz family, and you can see one of the largest family collections of art in Central Europe, as well as a permanent exhibition showing the life of a noble family.
The last important monument before Mělník is Veltrusy Castle, which is surrounded by a large English park with a number of romantic buildings.
