Four Czech newborns, who came into the world a minute past midnight, will share the title “First Baby of the New Year” the CTK news agency reported.
The four who tied for the honour are a baby boy from Karlovy Vary, two baby girls born in Pilsen and Jihlava, and another girl who came into the world in Pisek.
– Emily (3080 grams, 48 cm), Faculty Hospital in Pilsen;
– Julia (3185 grams, 48 cm), Jihlava’s maternity hospital;
– Nela (3550 grams, 50 cm), Pisek hospital;
– Ondrej (3880 grams, 51 cm), Karlovy Vary Hospital.
In Prague, the first child of the new year was born at the Bulovka hospital at 00:18. It was a girl named Eleanor.
Many moms race to give birth in the first minutes of the new year, anticipating publicity, prizes and presents for their child.
The amount of the financial reward is usually CZK 10-15,000.
However, in the past year, the mayor’s office changed the tradition. Now, instead of money, parents receive a congratulation letter and a commemorative set of coins.
