Have you ever held a 5000 Czech banknote and wondered about the distinguished figure staring back at you? It’s none other than T.G. Masaryk, the iconic first president of independent Czechoslovakia. Yet, the story doesn’t end here. Do you know the compelling story of his son, Jan Masaryk, and the enigmatic circumstances surrounding his life?

Watch with Some like it Czech a compelling biopic Masaryk (2016, the trailer), following him during the late 1930s, at the height of his diplomatic career. Set against the backdrop of the Munich betrayal, this film paints a poignant portrait of the Czechoslovak Republic’s initial vulnerability and the challenges it faced on the brink of World War II.

Internationally renowned actor Karel Roden brilliantly portrays Masaryk as a boisterous bohemian who loved the presence of beautiful women, and also a son who never stopped fighting for his father’s legacy.

Awarded with 12 prestigious Czech Lions awards, the movie artfully navigates the complexities of carrying the weight of your father’s presence, especially when he “gazes at you from every banknote.” Prepare for a visually stunning cinematic experience that immerses you in the life of a man whose death remains shrouded in mystery.
