Organization Overview
The Maharashtrian Mandal Czech Republic (MMCZ) is a cultural organization dedicated to preserving, celebrating, and promoting the rich heritage of Maharashtra, a vibrant state in western India known for its dynamic culture, artistic traditions, and historical significance.
Established with a mission to maintain cultural roots while fostering community bonds, MMCZ serves as a bridge between the Indian diaspora and the local Czech community. Through festivals, cultural programs, educational workshops, and social initiatives, MMCZ connects people across generations and backgrounds, creating spaces where tradition meets modernity and cultures converge.
Event Overview
The Grand Ganesh Festival 2026, held on September 19, welcomed an estimated 850–900 guests from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
The traditional festival centered on Lord Ganesh, revered as the remover of obstacles and a symbol of wisdom in Hindu philosophy. The celebration culminated in an evening of cultural performances, authentic Maharashtrian cuisine, and community activities.
The event featured a carefully curated lineup of performances, including devotional singing, classical and contemporary dance, children’s performances, musical tributes to Indian independence, theatrical presentations, and international folklore performances from Romania and Moldova.
Distinguished guests included His Excellency Shri Raveesh Kumar, Ambassador of India to the Czech Republic, alongside community leaders, performers, volunteers, and social partners. The festival combined spiritual traditions with entertainment, education, and social responsibility.
Theme: India-Czechia United by Friendship
“Indie-Česko Spojeni přátelstvím”
India-Czechia Integration and Diplomatic Partnership
This year’s theme celebrated the enduring friendship and deepening ties between India and the Czech Republic. MMCZ recognizes that cultural exchange can strengthen diplomatic relations and foster mutual understanding.
By organizing the festival in collaboration with the Embassy of India, MMCZ contributed to broader India-Czechia friendship initiatives, demonstrating how cultural heritage can transcend political boundaries and create opportunities for lasting international cooperation.
Multicultural Integration and Global Citizenship
The festival embraced a multicultural ethos by actively involving communities beyond the Indian diaspora.
Around 25 nationalities participated in the event. The participation of Romanian and Moldovan folklore performers, along with Czech locals and international expats, demonstrated how cultural celebrations can bring different communities together.
Guests experienced authentic Indian traditions alongside European folklore, creating opportunities for cross-cultural exchange. This integration reflects Prague’s identity as a cosmopolitan city where diverse communities live, celebrate, and learn alongside one another.
Community Empowerment and Social Responsibility
True to its values, MMCZ integrated social responsibility into the festival through the Annapurna Initiative, which brought authentic local delicacies prepared by community members.
MMCZ also donated a portion of the event registration proceeds to Život v Kufříku, an NGO dedicated to supporting underprivileged children in the Czech Republic. The partnership was highlighted during the event through guest speakers and interactive activities.
The initiative added a social dimension to the cultural celebration, showing how community events can also support charitable causes.
Preserving Heritage for Future Generations
The festival featured performances by children and young people, helping ensure that Maharashtrian traditions continue to be celebrated and passed on to younger generations growing up in diaspora communities.
Through dance, music, storytelling, and direct participation, the festival encouraged cultural pride while introducing younger participants to themes of wisdom, devotion, and community values associated with Lord Ganesh.
