  • Czech banks and building societies provided new mortgage loans at a value of CZK 12.3 billion in May, which was a month-on-month rise of 17 percent, according to data released by an industry body on Thursday. The interest rate on fresh mortages rose almost imperceptibly, from 5.89 percent in April to 5.9 percent last month

 

  • President Petr Pavel could appoint Marek Vyborný of the Christian Democrats as minister of agriculture on June 29. Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on Thursday that he and the president had provisionally agreed on that date.

 

  • The Czech Olympic Committee has proposed that athletes from Russia or Belarus sign declarations condemning aggression against any states before being allowed to compete at the Paris Olympics under a neutral flag. The position drafted by a committee expert group was presented to the media on Thursday.

 

  • Prague city has allocated 165 million CZK to update its public lighting system, reducing energy consumption and improving road safety. The renovation will replace old sodium lamps with modern and more efficient LED lights and include the smartification of public lighting. 

 

  • Czechia has made a donation of equipment worth CZK 6.5 million to a maternity hospital in Zambia. The Czech minister of foreign affairs, Jan Lipavský, visited the Mother and Child Hospital in Lusaka as part of visit that has also taken in Angola.
