- Tariffs for electricity and gas for consumers in the Czech Republic, which grew sharply since early 2022, have begun to significantly decrease.The Czech E.ON company has revised electricity and gas tariffs for households since March 31. The cost of kWh for electricity in E.ON is 6.63 crowns, including taxes. Competing companies offer households tariffs per kWh well above seven crowns.
- Czechia still has military equipment in its stores that it can send as aid to Ukraine, said Defence Minister Jana Černochová. The minister and the chief of the Czech Army’s general staff, Karel Řehka, will meet with President Petr Pavel in the coming days to discuss the topic and supply him with a list of the equipment that could be sent.
- The Library of Milan Kundera, the famous Czech exile writer living in France, opened in the Moravian Library (MZK) in Brno, on the occasion of his 94th birthday, housing the collection that he and his wife donated to his native town.
- Czech tennis star Petra Kvitová won the WTA Miami Open on Saturday after beating Elena Rybakina 7:5 6:2. The 33-year-old two-time Wimbledon champion said after the game that her victory shows she can stil play with the best and dominate major tournaments. It will also move her back into the top 10 of the WTA womens.
- Boston Bruins forward David Pastrňák scored a hattrick in his team’s 4:3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The three goals brought his point tally up to a total of 102 points (goals and assists) in 76 games and he thus became only the second Czech in history after Jaromír Jágr to score more than a 100 points in a single season.
