New Flights from Prague to Asia Boost Competition on Airfares

Travelers flying from Prague this autumn have more options as airlines add capacity and new direct connections, particularly to Asia.
At the same time, increased competition is putting pressure on carriers to keep fares under control, according to data from Czech booking portal Letuška.cz.
The biggest changes are visible on long-haul routes. New services from Prague are making destinations in Asia more accessible, while airlines already serving the Czech market are responding with promotional fares.
“Thanks to high competition and new capacity from Prague, the autumn flight market offers very favorable travel conditions,” said Josef Trejbal, commercial director of Letuška.cz. He said the arrival of new Asian connections has helped revive demand for long-haul travel and encouraged established airlines to introduce more competitive offers.
Direct flights strengthen Prague’s links with Asia
Asia is once again attracting greater interest from Czech travelers. One factor is the growing number of direct or more convenient connections from Prague, which can reduce the need for lengthy transfers through major Middle Eastern hubs.
STARLUX Airlines, for example, is offering flights from Prague to Taipei from around CZK 21,000. The direct service provides an alternative to itineraries involving a stopover and can save travelers both time and, depending on the itinerary, money.
Another new option will be available from October 10, when flights to Hanoi are scheduled to begin on the Prague–Almaty–Hanoi route. Tickets listed through Letuška.cz start at around CZK 18,000.
The expansion comes as airlines compete more aggressively for passengers on long-haul routes departing from Prague.
Caribbean and Latin America see strong growth
Europe remains the most popular region for Czech travelers, but demand for long-haul destinations is also changing. According to Letuška.cz, Latin America and the Caribbean have recorded the sharpest year-on-year increases, with demand growing by hundreds of percent in some cases.
The Caribbean in particular has benefited from rising interest among travelers looking beyond Europe. Latin American destinations have also seen a significant increase in bookings compared with the same period last year.
The stronger demand is coinciding with changes in the competitive landscape. New routes from Prague are challenging airlines that have traditionally carried passengers to Asia and Australia through Middle Eastern hubs.
Major Gulf carriers including Emirates, Qatar Airways and Etihad are responding with promotional fares, adding further pressure to ticket prices.
