Russian pianist Nikolay Medvedev will make his Prague debut on October 15 with FUSIONS, a solo recital bringing together classical piano and jazz.
The performance will take place at on October 15th at 7 pm at Bohuslav Martinů Hall in Liechtenstein Palace.
The programme features works by George Gershwin, Nikolai Kapustin and Earl Wild, and takes its name from Medvedev’s album Fusions, released in June by British label SOMM Recordings.
The concert marks Medvedev’s first performance before a Czech audience. His programme explores music that combines the technical demands of classical piano with jazz rhythms and influences.
From Moscow to the European concert stage
Medvedev graduated from the Gnessin Academy in Moscow, where he later taught solo piano and chamber music. His competition results include second prize and the special Salle Cortot Prize at the Vladimir Horowitz International Competition in Kyiv, first prize at the Vera Lotar-Shevchenko Competition and a semi-final appearance at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow.
In recent years, he has performed at major European venues, including the Konzerthaus in Berlin and the Brucknerhaus in Linz. His appearance in Linz in May featured works by Gershwin, Wild and Kapustin, the same composers represented in his Prague programme.
A new chapter in Berlin
The release of Fusions also represents a new stage in Medvedev’s career. After establishing himself as a concert pianist and educator in Russia, he decided not to return following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and settled in Berlin.
Since then, he has been rebuilding his professional career in a new environment, performing in Germany and elsewhere in Europe. He has also taken part in initiatives supporting Ukrainian refugees.
