Prague’s Václav Havel Airport handled 1,579,301 passengers in May, marking a 5.22 percent increase compared with the same month last year.

From the beginning of the year until the end of May, total passenger numbers reached 6,526,218, representing a 7.54 percent year-on-year increase.

One of the most notable changes in May was in country rankings. Italy became the most popular destination, narrowly surpassing the United Kingdom.

A total of 177,925 passengers flew to Italy, compared with 177,764 to the UK, a difference of just 161 travellers.

Spain followed with 155,388 passengers, then France with 106,849. Turkey, Germany and the Netherlands also remained among the most frequently chosen destinations.

London remains the busiest city route

Despite the country-level shift, London stayed the single most popular destination overall, with 115,178 passengers travelling from Prague.

Paris followed with 73,576 passengers, while Istanbul recorded 63,394 travellers.

Other major city routes included Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Milan, Copenhagen, Rome and Barcelona, confirming the strong concentration of demand in major European hubs.

Outlook for the year

In 2024, Václav Havel Airport handled more than 17.75 million passengers, approaching the pre-pandemic record of 17.8 million set in 2019.

For this year, the airport aims to reach 18.9 million passengers, continuing its recovery trajectory toward pre-COVID levels.

Between January and May last year, the airport processed just over a third of its annual passenger volume, accounting for 34.19 percent of total yearly traffic.
