Prague Airport to Expand Border Control at Terminal 1

Prague Airport is expanding and modernising the border control area for arriving passengers at Terminal 1 to increase capacity and reduce waiting times.
The project will add five new passport control desks and four EasyGoGate (EGG) self-service gates for eligible European passport holders.
The work is scheduled to begin in September 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of April 2027.
The expansion comes as Prague Airport faces increased pressure at border control, particularly during peak hours. The introduction of the European Entry/Exit System (EES) in October 2025 has added to the workload at the airport.
The project will also enlarge the waiting area before passport control and upgrade the ventilation system throughout the border control area.
The total investment is estimated at CZK 290 million, including construction, design and engineering work, technical supervision and safety coordination. The new passport control equipment will be supplied and installed by the Police of the Czech Republic.
Police representatives said the changes are also intended to strengthen security at the Schengen Area’s external border while ensuring the new facilities meet current security and legal requirements.
Some queues and restrictions are expected
The renovation will take place in stages to limit disruption to airport operations. However, passengers may encounter temporary restrictions at passport control and longer queues during some phases of the work.
At one stage, three passport control desks will be temporarily closed. This phase will be scheduled during a period of lower passenger traffic.
EU citizens will continue to be able to use the passport control desks and EGG self-service gates designated for European passport holders. They are not required to register through the EES.
During the other stages of construction, restrictions will mainly affect the area immediately before passport control. Passenger routes will be adjusted around the construction zones, while the overall flow through border control will remain unchanged.
