Prague Unveils Future Metro Stations in Nusle and Náměstí Míru

Prague’s future Metro Line D has taken another step toward becoming a reality, with new preliminary designs released for two stations planned along the route.
The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) has presented renderings of the future Náměstí Míru interchange and Nusle station, offering an early look at how the new metro line could change the city’s underground transport network.
The images do not represent the final appearance of either station. DPP plans to select the architectural solutions through a two-stage competition, which will focus on the design of the interiors and the public spaces around the stations.
DPP intends to organise the competition in two stages, using a workshop format. The winning designs are expected to be selected within 18 months of signing the contract with the competition organiser. Preparations for that contract are currently underway.
Náměstí Míru station will connect Metro Lines A and D
The future Náměstí Míru station is planned beneath Sázavská Street, approximately 40 metres underground. It will be built using underground mining methods and will feature a single-vault design with an island platform.
The new station will be located above the existing Line A station, creating a new interchange between the two metro lines.
The design includes two vestibules equipped with escalators and a third access point with an elevator. The renderings show the planned exits towards Vinohradská, Francouzská, and Sázavská streets, as well as an elevator entrance on Korunní Street.
Metroprojekt has also presented a possible design for the outlet of a ventilation shaft in Riegrovy Sady. The structure will form part of the station’s technical infrastructure, although its final appearance may change following the architectural competition.
New Nusle station will serve Náměstí Bratří Synků
The second station featured in the new designs is the future Nusle station, which was previously known as Náměstí Bratří Synků.
The station will be built using cut-and-cover construction methods, with its island platform located approximately 13 metres below ground level. It is planned between Náměstí Bratří Synků and Otakarova Street.
Plans also include an underground parking garage for local residents above the station.
The new renderings show the proposed station entrances on Náměstí Bratří Synků, the northern vestibule beneath Otakarova Street, and the planned completion of the existing urban block.
When will Prague’s Metro Line D open?
Construction of Metro Line D began in 2022 with the section between Pankrác and Ryšánka. Work on the following section, extending towards Nové Dvory, began in June 2026.
The Pankrác–Nové Dvory section is planned to be the first part of the new metro line to open to passengers. DPP currently expects the section to enter service in the second half of 2032.
