Queer Arts Festival PINKBUS Returns With New Performances and International Guests

The PINKBUS Festival will return to Prague on November 3-14 with several days of theatre, dance, drag, music, visual art and performance.

This year’s edition, titled Forward March!, will focus on the need to keep moving forward amid an uncertain social and political climate.

Organised by the PINKBUS queer arts platform, the festival aims to create a space for artists and audiences to meet, experiment and share experiences. The programme combines established artists with new projects and will also mark the beginning of a new season for the platform.

One of the highlights of this year’s festival will be the premiere of two original works developed through the PINKBUS open call First Ride.

Richard Eliáš, an Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (AVU) student, will present the interdisciplinary drag fantasy I Guess It’s Kind of My Fault, or What?. The second project, by the performative art collective Izbová teplota & Alejandra, is Štúrovci Went to Devín and Had Some Fun, offering a new and unconventional take on the group of Slovak national revival figures known as the Štúrovci.

The festival will also feature international guests. French artists Nicolas Poggi and Giselle Hauscarriaga will present SUDOR (Sweat), a Czech premiere performed with a local cast. The post-performative work explores physical exhaustion, sweat and the limits of the body.

Another premiere, Lipsync Her Name… Because It’s Precious, is being created in collaboration with the Italian festival RAINBOW.IT and Slovak organisation DRAMA QUEER. The performance focuses on three figures from European LGBTQIA+ history: Lucy Salani, Romina Cecconi and Ota Tasinata.

Directed by Tomáš “Grófka” Procházka, the production combines three monodramatic sketches exploring identity and the determination to remain true to oneself. The cast includes Italian actor Antonello Foddis and his drag alter ego La Trave Nell’Okkio, as well as Czech performer Venice, also known as Martin Talaga.

The programme will also include the PINKPANEL discussion series. This year’s edition, titled (The Tinsmith’s) Hammer Against Queerness, will examine the potential impact of current cultural policy on LGBTQIA+ artistic production and discuss possible forms of resistance.

The festival will conclude with a special BEST OF edition of the PINKBUS variety show, featuring Venice, Just Karen, La Cuntessa, Tonic Garbáge, Helena Araujo and other performers, alongside special guests.
