Stay in a Czech Spa, Get a Voucher Worth 4,000 CZK

As a means to help restart the tourism industry after months of lack of economic activity, caused by the coronavirus lockdown, the Government of the Czech Republic will be delivering 1 billion CZK in the form of vouchers worth 4,000 CZK.

From 1 July to 31 December, vouchers will be available to those spending at least six nights and having five procedures at a spa hotel. The COVID – Lázně program was approved on Monday by the government, Hospodářské noviny reported on Monday.

People are required to register online to receive the e-vouchers worth about 4,000 CZK per person for accommodation payment.

“Each person can generate a voucher on the website, and get a unique code. The guest will receive a discount immediately, and see it directly in the invoice,” said the Minister for Regional Development Klára Dostálová (ANO).

Guests can print the vouchers from the beginning of July on portal. Only adults who pay for public insurance are entitled to use the voucher.

This package is estimated to cost the Czech state around 1 billion CZK. 250,000 vouchers will be distributed among Czech citizens and residents.

“The stimulus package is needed until the end of the year to support tourism businesses hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and to help people in the tourism workforce,” added Dostálová.

Tourist industry experts warn that domestic tourism alone cannot keep the sector going.

“There will be some assistance from [domestic tourism] for the hotels, but our estimates say that it will cover only about 30 to 35 percent of what foreigners would spend in the Czech Republic,” said Tomas Prouza, president of the Confederation of Trade and Tourism.

Next week, the Czech government should also discuss the COVID – accommodation program. Hotels could get a contribution of 200 CZK to 400 CZK per room.

Karlovy Vary has set aside 10 million CZK for accommodation vouchers. Vouchers for bed and breakfast and wellness stay are already sold out. People can still get a discount of 5,000 CZK for a seven-night stay and a minimum booking value of 19,000 CZK.
