  • More and more new cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in Czech regions, including three in Liberec, one in Hradec Kralove and nine in South Moravia on Monday alone.

 

  • Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala will give a New Year’s speech on January 1. A speech will also be delivered by Senate chairman Milos Vystrcil, while Chamber of Deputies chairwoman Marketa Pekarova Adamova is not planning any.

 

  • On Monday evening, an estimated four hundred people gathered for a demonstration “for freedom of speech and balanced information” in front of the Czech Television building in Prague, called by the Chcípl PES initiative.

 

  • The European Union´s drugs regulator gave the green light Monday to a fifth COVID-19 vaccine for use in the 27-nation bloc. Novavax has lined up production facilities in the Czech Republic, South Korea and elsewhere.

 

  • Czech researchers have developed a biochip that is as fast as an antigen test and reliable as a PCR, the news site novinky.cz reported. The advantage of biochips is that they can be used repeatedly until the first positive result.
