Vinohrady's Americká Street Block Party Returns on September 12

Americká and Záhřebská streets in Prague’s Vinohrady will turn into a pedestrian festival zone on Saturday, September 12, for the 15th edition of Zažít Americkou jinak.

From 10:30 AM to 9:30 PM, the streets will host a full-day programme of live music, dance, workshops, design, food and activities for children. The festival is free to attend.

A major part of this year’s programme will focus on Mexico and Latin American culture, including a celebration of Mexican Independence Day.

The main programme will take place on the La Calle Mexicana Stage, hosted by DJs Roxana Velasco and José. Visitors can look forward to performances by Studio Anyo, traditional Mexican music, a piñata, a dance workshop and appearances by Mexican musicians Razcarmelo and Andrea Viruega.

One of the highlights will be El Grito, the traditional ceremony marking Mexico’s Independence Day. The event has become an annual gathering point for the Mexican community in Czechia and festival visitors.

The programme will also feature Mariachi Azteca de Praga, described as the first authentic mariachi band based in the Czech Republic.

The evening will continue with international acts including Faustina Calavera, a ten-member band from Wrocław combining Latin American cumbia, Balkan brass and ska, followed by ONIXIA, an Argentine singer, dancer and songwriter based in Berlin who blends electronic music with Latin American rhythms.

More Space to Relax

This year’s festival will also feature an expanded chill-out zone at the intersection of Americká and Jana Masaryka streets, with seating, workshops and space to meet friends and neighbours.

Music will also be played at two additional locations. The Burza #4 Stage will return by the fountain at the corner of Americká and Záhřebská streets, while another stage on Záhřebská Street will focus on world and house music.

MINT Market, Food and Local Businesses

The festival will once again include MINT Market, bringing together dozens of Czech designers, independent makers and creators from Latin America. Visitors can browse fashion, jewellery, illustrations, ceramics, natural cosmetics and other handmade products.

Food will be another major part of the day, with Mexican, Latin American and international cuisine, street food and special offers from cafés, restaurants and other local businesses.

During the festival, Americká and Záhřebská streets will be closed to traffic and parking.
