A slice of Osaka has arrived in Prague’s Holešovice district with the opening of Okonomiyaki Izakaya Matsuri, a brand-new Japanese eatery specializing in okonomiyaki, a savory pancake often referred to as “Japanese pizza.” Located at Veletržní 820/73, Okonomiyaki Izakaya Matsuri introduces locals and expats alike to authentic Osaka street food in a unique sports-themed setting. Okonomiyaki: Japanese “Pizza” with a Twist For those unfamiliar, okonomiyaki is a popular street food in Japan, particularly in Osaka. Its name translates loosely to “grill as you like,” allowing for a range of toppings and customization. The dish starts with a pancake-like base made from flour and eggs, topped with white cabbage and then cooked to crispy perfection. A signature tangy sauce and Japanese mayonnaise complete the dish, and diners can add their choice of ingredients such as seafood, pork, or even cheese. Chef Hiroki Komiya: From Osaka to Prague The culinary expert behind Okonomiyaki Izakaya Matsuri, Hiroki Komiya, brings years of experience from Osaka, where he served as head chef of an okonomiyaki restaurant since 2017. His journey to Prague has an interesting backstory. In 2022, a delegation from the Czech-Japanese Center in Ostrava visited Japan and had the chance to sample Hiroki’s...

Traditional desserts often rely on ingredients like eggs, milk, and butter. But in the world of vegan cuisine, these are left out, replaced by plant-based alternatives that are just as delicious. Fortunately, there are plenty of places in Prague where you can indulge in fantastic vegan cakes, ice cream, and pastries. Let’s explore where to find the best vegan sweets in the Czech capital! Krafin Chutnej – one of Prague’s well-known vegan restaurants – also runs a delightful café and bakery selling plant-based sweet and savory pastries. Their selection ranges from classic croissants and danishes to unique tartlets and chocolate rolls, offering both larger and smaller portions. However, their standout product is vegan donut. Made from fluffy dough, they come in a variety of flavors and are a fusion between a croissant and a muffin. The secret to their soft texture lies in using croissant dough, but instead of butter, they use a vegetable-based fat that tastes just as good. You’ll find combinations like matcha with blackberry, rhubarb with vanilla, and classics like strawberry or hazelnut cream. Don’t miss out on their savory croissants, filled with vegan delights like carrot à la salmon or roasted pumpkin. Impressive are their savory...
St. Martin’s Day, which Czechs celebrate on November 11, is a holiday of good food and drink. Autumn slowly alternates with winter, and it begins to snow. In the past, the economic year was ending at this time, and the landowners were preparing a feast for their people as a form of thanks, when they were also paid out their wages. And what about today? Today, the feast of St. Martin is a great opportunity to bring a little joy to life! Traditionally, fattened geese are roasted on 11 November, and the first bottles of young wine open at exactly 11:11 am. St. Martin wines are fresh and young, as they only have a few weeks to mature. They are very clear and have a lower alcohol content. So join the celebrations, because it’s high time to taste what this year has brought. Young wine in celebration of St. Martin St. Martin wines are always the first wines of the new vintage. These are fresh and fruity wines, which have matured for only a few weeks, but during this time, they had enough to acquire their distinctive character. For a wine to bear the St. Martin brand, it must be...
Prague 10 is planning to transform Malešický Park with the construction of a new restaurant and observation tower.
