Love Thai food? (Let’s face it – who doesn’t.) From creamy massaman curries to zingy tom yum soup (hot and sour prawn soup), fresh som tam (spicy green papaya salad), and more – Thai food is light, fragrant, and full of contrasting flavours. But for Thai food to really stand out and shine, it needs to be prepared with authentic ingredients by chefs who know the cuisine inside and out. As Thai food became more and more popular across the globe and Thai restaurants started popping up everywhere, Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce of Thailand introduced “Thai SELECT” award for Thai restaurants with authentic Thai cuisine. Recently, “Thai SELECT” restaurants—Rattanakosin and Thai Station, presented two dishes of Thai food and cooking demonstration at “Thai Market Day” event–the event was co-organized by the Royal Thai Embassy, the Office of Commercial Affairs (Thai Trade Center) and Thai Tourism Office in Prague. Apart from cooking demonstration, Thai Trade Center provided all visitors with take away box for tasting and visitors also joined cooking Thai food at the event. Varieties of Thai products were also displayed at the event, namely rice, seasonings and sauces, coconut products, SAPPE jelly, biodegradable packaging...
Prague’s Masaryk Railway Station gets newly remodeled space for 70 million CZK. The total cost of the reconstruction of the former casino, now a restaurant, has cost a hefty amount of money. Together with investment group Penta, the remodeling was paid for by its tenant, Lagardere. The restaurant inside the building of the train station offers many traditional dishes and can accommodate up to 200 guests. The well-known chef Marek Hosnedl operates in the kitchen. The Masaryčka restaurant, which is part of the complete transformation of Prague’s Masaryk Railway Station, will open at the end of August and, together with the investment company Penta, it is also supported by its tenant – Lagardere. “The first-class imperial restaurant has been operating here since 1869. The restaurant remained here until the 1990s, but its quality gradually declined. Subsequently, a casino was built here,” says Jan Vodvářka from Penta. According to him, the roughly one-year-long reconstruction was regularly supervised by conservationists so that such iconic details like cast-iron columns and coffered ceilings with decorative rosettes were preserved. “The total reconstruction was expensive, it cost 70 million CZK. It took us quite a long time to find a suitable tenant who would share the...

Rosé wine is one of the most beloved drinks for summer. It is light, refreshing, and instantly makes one feel elegant and sophisticated. Its iconic pink tint looks amazing in a wine glass and serves as a perfect compliment at any summertime gathering. What makes rosé even better is its universality when it comes to foods it could be eaten with, especially with grilled dishes. Usually, that kind of food is served with a glass of red, however, during summer and hot weather, a strongly tannic wine may not be the best choice, which is why a glass of rosé will go nicely with both hefty and light meals. How rosé wines are made Contrary to stereotypes, rosé is not the result of mixing white and red wines together. There are several production methods. The most popular is known as “bleeding” (fr. Saignee) – the berries of red grapes are lightly pressed, the skin is torn and the enzymes contained in it start the fermentation process. After a few hours, the skin is removed, but the juice has time to turn into a rich pink color. It is important not to overexpose here, therefore in France rosé is often called...

Attention all wine lovers! LÁHVE:, a wine shop with a unique selection of premium but inexpensive wines has opened in Prague. Selling high-quality wines from all over Europe that won’t hurt a budget is LÁHVE:’s biggest priority. The store specializes in wines from five countries (Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic; Spain will be added very soon), and has interesting features that make wine shopping easy and stress-free. The first unique feature of LÁHVE: is that it is the perfect store for introverts. Its consultants won’t nag you during shopping unless you ask for help, and if you do, their staff speaks English, Czech, or Russian. However, the shop’s other features make picking wine without being an expert much easier. The store is divided into zones according to countries that produce the wine, and their price tags don’t just have numbers on them- they also have other additional information: the place and year of wine production, the grape variety, a brief description of the taste, the recommended serving temperature, as well as the most compatible dishes. There’s also a scale of flavor saturation that makes shopping for wines easy and fast. Perhaps the best feature of LÁHVE: is its prices....
Prague is home to a vibrant food scene with restaurants that serve cuisine from all over the globe. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been scouring the best Thai cuisine in the city, part of Thai Select network. No matter what your mood is. NOI is always an ideal choice for an enjoyable and tasty time. Exclusively designed for people seeking harmony, relaxation and delicious healthy Thai cuisine. Restaurant Noi is a little off the regular tourist track so expect to be eating with locals at lunchtime and it’s popular with expats for local business lunches. Food Don’t get this mixed up with what they call “Asian” food. Noi has 100% Thai with gorgeous salads available and if fried glass noodles and shrimps gets you going then this is the place for you. Some may find Thai soups like Tom Yam are too spicy so they have other soups that are just as tasty but, without the heat. First-timers should at least try the mixed starter. Our favorites include: Tom Kah Koong (shrimp/coconut milk soup – not spicy) and Yam Woon Sen (glass noodles shrimp and pork mix). A good choice for those who wish for a dish not as smoking...

More and more people are seriously considering insects as a source of protein. The environmental benefits are manifold, but can regional start-ups in Central and Eastern Europe overcome consumer resistance to the idea that bugs can be food? Eating insects, also known entomophagy, is part of many traditional diets across the world. Insects such as crickets and mealworms are safe for human consumption and are a great source of protein. There are environmental benefits to consider as well. Rearing insects produces less greenhouse gas and uses less land and water compared to livestock. Insects also have a higher “feed conversion” — they can convert feed to protein more efficiently than traditional food animals such as pigs. Globally, there are already many start-ups turning insects such as crickets into food and selling them, either as protein powder made from ground-up bugs or whole – sometimes flavoured, sometimes not. In Central and Eastern Europe, Czechia has emerged as a regional hub for this nascent sector, boasting several high-profile start-ups. One of these is Terraz, producing a new twist on an old favourite — pasta made from cricket flour. Another is Entoway, selling a protein supplement made from plant protein and crickets. “It all...
A statement from the State Veterinary Administration of the Czech Republic reported that the Froneri ice cream factory in Poland, responsible for Milka products, accidentally contaminated several batches with ethylene oxide. A gas used as an antifreeze that is totally flammable with carcinogenic effects. Over 250,000 popsicles have to be withdrawn from Czech stores. These include 250,000 popsicles, 15,000 multipacks of six and eight, and about 37,000 ice creams in 480 ml trays. The products are marked as Milka mini cornet vanilla chocolate 8×25 ml (multipack), Milka mini ice cream vanilla chocolate 6x50ml (multipack), Milka chocolate nut 100 ml, Milka caramel crunch 100 ml, Milka chocolate and vanilla 100 ml and Milka ice cream chocolate vanilla cup 480 ml. Consumption data for defective batches are from 2022 to May 2023. Ethylene oxide can damage DNA and causes cancers including Lymphoma, leukemia, stomach and breast cancer. The possible health risk derives mainly from the direct handling of the substance or from a hypothetical continued consumption in large doses. Czech health authorities advise users who have one of the affected products in their homes to “refrain from consuming them” and return them to where they bought them for a full refund. Froneri,...
