Kateřina and Tereza, food lovers who run the successful Instagram channel kamvpraze, will share with us at Prague Morning a weekly food tip. We’ll discover together new openings in the city, hidden cafes, bistros, or well-renowned restaurants. The Bowls is one of the bistros we wanted to try for a long time already. So finally today we got the option to do so – although only partly thanks to the delivery from Wolt. We ordered amazing Protein & Orient bowls, which are full of healthy ingredients that are pretty ideal in the current times. Poke Bowls, as well as the Buddha Bowls, are one of our favourite foods so we were really looking forward to trying this one out! As a dessert, we tried their Acai Bowl not only because we really love them, but also because you ask us very often where to get the best one in Prague. We enjoyed all the bowls – there were simply delicious and also very nicely served despite the delivery mode. UberEats to Leave the Czech Republic in June

A leaked email from Uber Eats vice president Pierre-Dmitri Gore-Coty revealed the plans, which were later confirmed by an Uber Eats spokesperson Uber said on Monday it was closing down its Uber Eats operations in eight markets, including the Czech Republic, because “they did not offer a clear route to becoming the number one or number two online food delivery operator”, its stated aim for its Eats business. “We have made the decision to discontinue Uber Eats in Czech Republic, Egypt, Honduras, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and Uruguay, and to wind down the Eats app and transition operations to Careem in UAE,” a Uber spokesman said. According to Gore-Coty’s email, Uber Eats did not “grow quickly enough in these markets and we don’t see them as a path to profitability”. Uber Eats started operating in Prague in 2018, delivering McDonald’s from four Prague fast foods (Muzeum, Vodičkova, Florenc and Eden). “This continues our strategy of focusing our energy and resources on our top Eats markets around the world.” Uber said its core rides business was unaffected in all of the markets. We’ll discover together new openings in the city, hidden cafes, bistros, or well-renowned restaurants. We ordered perfect Thai food from Yam Yam with the food delivery app Dáme jídlo. Yam Yam is located in four places in Prague – Vyšehrad, Dejvice, in Perlová street and in Karlín. It’s an Asian restaurant, which was waiting on our must-go list for a long time (among many others), but we still didn’t manage to stop by. Dishes were really great and also huge – therefore we have to say that it really is worth the price. Czechs are Saving Their Pubs! They Bought Vouchers for a Value of CZK 7 Million

Since the beginning of April, Czechs are spending on average CZK 360,000 on beer and food vouchers every day to be consumed “in better times”. Following the success of Zachraň pivo! (Save the Beer!) website, the new Zachraň svou hospodu! (Save Your Pub!) site enables concerned drinkers to buy vouchers for use when cash-strapped Czech pubs re-open. The initiative partners include a dozen of the Czech Republic’s biggest breweries, alcohol, and soft drinks producers. Among them is Plzeňský Prazdroj, the makers of Pilsner Urquell. “The brewers who work in the pubs all their lives are inherently connected with the pub. We need to support each other,” says Plzeňský Prazdroj’s chief brewmaster emeritus Václav Berka, who has personally bought several vouchers. Berka called on his colleagues in the industry to support their pubs as well. “I was pleasantly surprised by the interest in this initiative, but on the other hand, I was surprised at how many pubs are not involved, yet. After 110 Years, Czechs Will No Longer Produce Lentilky

Lentilky, the iconic multi-colored, sugar-coated chocolates are no longer produced in the Czech Republic. Nestlé has been making Lentilky for more than 110 years in Holešov, Moravia. Now the company moved production of the much-loved Czech sweet to Hamburg, Germany, where it will share a “new recipe” with Smarties. According to the company, factories in the Czech republic couldn’t manage the ‘technological demands’ of producing paper packaging. Vratislav Janda, the company’s director of corporate affairs, told Radiožurnál: “We are unifying the recipe between Lentilky and Smarties, which means that there will be less sugar and more chocolate in Lentilky, which was based on consumer tests.” The spokesperson explained Nestlé believes the Hamburg plant is better equipped in terms of the “reduction in maintenance costs for production technologies, and better capacity utilization… Which is sufficient for the production and distribution of the product to all EU countries”. Janda also revealed that Nestle will pack Lentils in paper packaging, which is technologically demanding and cannot be produced in the Czech Republic but can in Hamburg. Cost of Fruit, Vegetables in the Czech Republic Set to Rise Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic

Analysts predict a significant rise in the prices of fruits and vegetables in Czech stores. Reasons are different: the Czech crown currency’s recent weakening, spring frosts and a shortage of workers in agriculture. At the moment in Tesco supermarkets, bell peppers cost 80 CZK/kg, tomatoes 60 CZK/kg, and lemons 55 CZK/kg. These prices are about 30% more expensive than last year. Prices are expected to rise also in rice, as there is a significant increase in global demand. It is characteristic that, according to Reuters data, the price of rice has climbed to the highest levels since April 2013. Farmers all over the world feel the lack of employees, including major European suppliers – Great Britain, Spain, France and Italy. The numbers involved are substantial: France is short of about 200,000 workers until the end of May, while Spain has a shortfall of 70,000 to 80,000. Italy needs about 250,000 seasonal workers in the next two months, while the UK normally receives 70,000 to 80,000 over the season and Germany 300,000. Review: Restaurant Food Delivery in Prague

There are three main food delivery players in Prague; Dáme jídlo, Wolt, and UberEats. I hadn’t tried any of these services before the restaurants closed – now I’ve tried all three. So which delivery service is best? Wolt My first app download was Wolt. I chose Wolt because they seemed to deliver from several quality restaurants that I liked to visit when open – wasn’t just focussed on existing takeaways. It was pretty easy to set up my details – the app was in English and I liked that I could use Apple Pay so I didn’t have to enter my credit card details again. My first order experience was perfect. The menu was automatically translated and I was able to add items to the cart, add a tip (you can revoke later if needed), checkout and immediately see the progress of my order. The progress was updated until it showed that my order had been collected. I could see the progress of the courier on a map and delivery time, so I was at the door just as they arrived. Bolt Food Launches in Prague

Bolt, formerly known as Taxify, tucks into food-delivery market and started its new service in Prague. At the moment, you can find brands and restaurants such as KFC, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Burrito Loco, Lasagneria, YOLO Karlin, Kolkovna, Potrefena Husa, PokeHaus, TGI Fridays, and many others. In the coming weeks, several hundred other businesses will be added, said the company in a press release. Delivery within four kilometers will be free of charge as part of the initial promotional offer. “Bolt has hundreds of thousands of satisfied users in the Czech Republic. Through Bolt Food they will be able to order food from their favorite restaurant and support the businesses during these trying times,” says Roman Sysel, Bolt’s regional manager for Central Europe.
