The Czech Republic Remains at the TOP 10 of the Most Peaceful Countries in the World
The Czech Republic remains in the top ten of the most peaceful countries in the world after Iceland, New Zealand, Ireland, Denmark, Austria, Portugal, and Slovenia. The 16th edition of the Global Peace Index ranked 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness. The Czech Republic was listed in 8th place. GPI is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), the world’s leading think tank dedicated to developing metrics to analyze peace and quantify its economic value.It does this by developing global and national indices, calculating the economic cost of violence, analyzing country-level risk, and understanding positive peace. In particular, the authors draw attention to the level of violent crime in the country, the availability of weapons to the population, government spending on military needs, the number of armed conflicts, the number of heavy weapons and nuclear weapons, relations with neighboring states, the profit from the sale of weapons, the level of social cohesion, respect for human rights, political and economic stability, and the number of prisoners.
