Gran Fierro: A Rebirth With a Sustainable Soul

Argentinian restaurant Gran Fierro initially opened its doors in 2014 in the centre of Prague in Voršilská Street. After relocating this year to Myslikova Street in Prague, the owner, Juan Cruz, is on a mission to bring sustainability to the heart of the restaurant. “We came out of the quarantine with a fresh and more conscious approach. We can proudly say that we are transforming Gran Fierro into a Circular Restaurant.” The new interior of Gran Fierro, inspired by Juan’s Argentinian roots, was designed by the award-winning studio Forma Fatal. Among many original details, there is an impressive wall with hanging coals that showcases their commitment to sustainability. “It’s a magnificent looking statement. Our kitchen is based on fire, so charcoal is at the centre of it. It’s important to reflect on the negative impact of the charcoal industry, to avoid deforestation. Why do Czech Men Shy Away From Foods Labelled “Vegan”? New Study Gives 4 Reasons

In “the land that vegetables forgot”, as Anthony Bourdain stated on his show “No Reservations” meat has always been a staple in Czech Republic’s kitchen, with men especially prone to reach for meat-heavy dishes in restaurants, cafeterias, etc. Purchasing rates for tofu, soy products, and meat substitutes remain low in supermarkets and restaurants within the Czech male demographics, especially those outside of Prague and over the age of 35. Now, a new ethnographic research study conducted through in-depth interviews in Dvur Kralove nad Labem, by a Durham University Masters student explains why. Male strength: Men believe vegan products, diets, and lifestyles are unhealthy, unsatisfying, restrictive, and bland. Health concerns were also a recurring topic amongst men. International Emmy Awards 2020: #Martyisdead Wins Best Short-Form Series

The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences today unveiled the winners of the International Emmy Awards 2020. The series was directed by Pavel Soukup, written by screenwriters Jaroslav T. Miška and Jan Stehlík and produced Vratislav Šlajer, Jakub Košťál and Milan Kuchynka. The protagonist Marty was played by Jakub Nemčok. The eight-part online series, available on Mall.tv was inspired by real cases of cyberbullying and created in collaboration with the Safely on the Net project. The sequel, called #annaismissing, will be available on Mall.TV from May 2021. #annaismissing will revolve around the investigation into the kidnapping of a child, 14-year-old Anna, for black-market videos. T3 Coupé Tram Wins Prestigious German Design Award 2021

Renowned Czech product designer Anna Maresova has won yet another international award. The judges of the prestigious German Design Award competition have given her 1st-place Gold for the T3 Coupé, which she and her team designed for the Prague Public Transit Company. The T3 Coupé sightseeing tram for Prague received the competition’s top honour, which is awarded in recognition of outstanding, complex, and innovative design undertakings that make substantial contributions to the industry as a whole. Prague Has a New Tourism Strategy

In cooperation with the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR Prague), the city’s leadership and Prague City Tourism have prepared a new concept for inbound tourism in Prague. Its objective is to balance the economic benefits of tourism with the strategic interests of the city and its residents. The concept introduces a new, complex, and sustainable approach to tourism in Prague. It was unanimously approved by the city’s elected representatives in October. The new tourism concept reacts to specific long-term problems associated with the overly congested city center, which is barely able to cope with the negative impacts of excessive tourism and so-called touristification, which forces out the usual daily urban functionality for residents and replaces it with services that focus exclusively on tourism. Trams and Buses in Prague are Also Taking Part in Movember

For the fifth year in a row, transport companies across the Czech Republic will join the Movember global campaign, which focuses on men’s health. Throughout the whole month of November, buses and trams will be decked out with some magnificent mo’s to raise awareness about men’s health issues. This year, 11 transport companies will take part in this global charity event highlighting the prevention of prostate and testicular cancer. The main goal is to raise funds to combat this insidious disease and to draw attention to the need for preventive examinations. Half of Czechs Support Marijuana Legalization

More than half of Czechs say the use of marijuana should be legal, reflecting a steady increase over the past decade, according to a new survey by Pražský deník. More than half of Czech adults have tried marijuana at least once in their lives. 53% report that they first used marijuana during their high school years. And a quarter of them smoked the first joint in elementary school. A 2016 survey from the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Dependency found that the Czech Republic had the highest share of young cannabis or hashish users in Europe, as more than a fifth of Czechs aged 15 to 34 had used the drugs at least once in the previous year. Cannabis use for recreational purposes is illegal in the Czech Republic, using marijuana for therapeutic and health purposes on prescription from a doctor has been legal since April 2013. But very few patients are currently able to procure it, as the use of medical cannabis is not reimbursed by the Czech social insurance and patients have to pay for the entire cost by themselves. Gallery: Mariusz M-City Waras Brings his Iconic Wall Art to Ostrava

Polish artist Mariusz M-City Waras, known for his striking black and white cityscapes, has painted a mural on a facade in Nadrazni street, Ostrava. “We tried to feel the pulse of the city, to reveal its personal rhythm and charm,” Mariusz M-City Waras explains. “One of the fundamental tasks was to find a certain symbol, a metaphor, something understandable and close to every citizen – not to deploy a foreign thing to which no one has a relationship.” This scene of a robotic, leaping horse has revitalised a once plain, ordinary building in Ostrava.
