The clothes we wear express on the outside what we are about on the inside. The struggle comes from knowing that these clothes are often the source of pollution all through their life cycle. From the vast amounts of water required to grow the cotton to the release of micro-plastic during washing and the waste created by discarded clothing, expressing our personality and bringing joy to our lives through fashion can quickly become problematic. With fashion there is more to consider than “reduce, reuse, recycle”, and constantly assessing the sources, materials, and manufacturers of the items we chose to wear can be overwhelming. If you live in Prague, read this article further to learn about eco-friendly fashion stores you can purchase your clothes from. Thankfully, the growing awareness of the issues surrounding fashion prompted some brands...

On Tuesday, from 6 pm, you can bring your dinner on Charles Bridge and celebrate being past the worst of coronavirus. Czech citizens and tourists can say goodbye to the coronavirus restrictions and welcome summer holidays with a feast on Charles Bridge. The 515-meter-long table will be decorated with white tablecloths and flowers. The event is organized by Piana na ulici association in cooperation with the Town Hall of Prague 1. The author of the project, the Prague culture activist Ondřej Kobza, described Charles Bridge as a “symbol of interconnection, which will be enhanced by a neighborhood feast.” Due to hygienic reasons, it is necessary to register to the event free of charge via www.goout.net. “We want to send a signal that people are living here again and we are looking forward to all visitors to Prague,” said Prague 1 Mayor Petr Hejma (STAN). One of the most popular attractions in the Czech Republic has been without tourists since March. According to Hejma, Prague “wants to show the world that the city is open again and it can offer more than cheap beer”. Today, some representatives of the city sat at the table in the Old Town part of the bridge. They replaced the Mayor...
Dyzajn Market Summer will take place on June 27 and 28 in the space in front of the Industrial Palace in Prague’s Holešovice district. It will introduce around 150 brands, mainly by Czech creators. You will be able to view and purchase authentic jewelry, clothing, fashion, and home accessories, natural cosmetics, porcelain, ceramics, backpacks, handbags, toys, books, candles, stationery, flowers grown in Czechia, or small items for pets. The event’s aim is to show to the wider public that you can buy quality products locally, and what’s more – responsibly and consciously. This is why entry is free and, of course, accessible. Dyzajn Market is also for those who like to enjoy quality food, select coffee, and treats of all kinds. There will be twenty stalls offering refreshments. „Whether we will be able to sample foods directly at the event or not is changing constantly but from our experience, during Dyzajn Market’s last edition we know that the beautiful atmosphere of Dyzajn will be preserved whether we can eat there or not,“ says Olga Velíšková, the event’s lead organizer. For the first time this year, we will be able to experience not just Dyzajn market’s traditional program of a „local...

Functional foods are foods that have a potentially positive effect on health beyond basic nutrition and not just for the pleasure of the taste or simply craving. However, are we actually ready to sacrifice some pleasure of food to optimize our health? We all know the importance of our health and if we had forgotten, we would have all got a brutal reminder during these last few months with Covid-19. We use functional food for our dogs, our cats, horses, well all the animals we humans take care of. Surely we want the animals to have the highest quality of life and we want to keep them for as long as we can. However, the question is, don’t we want the same for our family members and friends? Of course, we do! Somehow food has become so much about what we feel like eating, the pleasure of the taste much more than what is actually good for us and what our body’s need to stay healthy. We are tricked by ingredients like salt and sugar, that we can develop a craving for, but that we actually only need in very reduced amounts. In other words, our body does not tell...

Every Thursday evening and until the end of September, you can enjoy a unique view of Prague on the roof of the National Agricultural Museum in Letná. The National Agriculture Museum has been recently reconstructed and restored to its 1930s look, a process that also made the roof terrace accessible. The terrace offers unique and attractive views at Prague, including the Prague Castle, Petřín or Old Town. The garden with soft grass, a herb garden, a picnic area is great for relaxation. What is also interesting is that there are also beehives. Aside from the smell of the herb garden, you can also rent some picnic equipment, buy some quality Czech food in the museum shop, and enjoy the amazing scenery. Visiting the museum is an excursion into the field of agriculture, with which the people living the center of Prague really do not come across. The whole exhibition is conceived as a story that leads the visitor through the history of the hard work of farmers. The National Museum of Agriculture was founded in 1918 but its oldest part, the museum at the Ohrada hunting lodge, started its activities in 1842. It is apparently not only the oldest specialized...

On 22 June 2020, 150 new electric scooters with a sharing system will appear in selected Prague locations. Blinkee.city aims to offer another way of comfortable, financially effective, fast, and eco-friendly transport in Prague. The scooters are already available in seven countries (Poland, Spain, Croatia, Hungary, Sweden, Romania, Slovakia). “It is currently one of the fastest-growing industries. In 2017, there were 350,000 electric sharing-scooters. Since 2019, the number has risen to 5 million. Shared electromobility is experiencing a boom similar to smartphones at that time. The increase in users between 2017 and 2019 was 1,371 percent”, says Jan Kanta, CEO of the company. “Prague cannot be extended endlessly and we are sick and tired of being stuck in the traffic” he adds. According to ÚAMK (Autoclub of the Czech Republic), standing in traffic costs drivers more than 20,000 CZK every year. One of the undeniable advantages is Prague’s effort to expand ecological alternatives for inland transport. For this reason, the electric scooters can be parked without limitation in any parking zone. The mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib has also recently supported activities promoting better urban mobility and electromobility. “We consider shared zero-emission mobility services that respect local specifics a positive...
