Manifesto Market, recently awarded the Retailer of the Year prize for Best Customer Experience, announced the closing of a growth equity investment from Rockaway. Last year, 650 000 people – about one-half of all Prague’s citizens – visited Manifesto, and another 4 million were reached on social media. “We appreciate the vision of Manifesto, which brings innovation to offline business. This is a common denominator of all our investments. I am also glad that we can utilize our know-how from retail on the one hand, and from developing digital platforms on the other hand,” says Dušan Zábrodský, Investment Partner of Rockaway group. One of the first concrete steps for 2019, a second Manifesto is slated to open in Prague’s Smichov district. International expansion is being planned in parallel and the organizers are in advanced negotiations for a site in western Europe. In 2019, Manifesto will hire a new team and offer senior and junior job opportunities in management, digital technologies, marketing, and architecture. Manifesto Na Florenci will reopen for its second season on March 15th and welcome a new eclectic selection of chefs and street food concepts. Manifesto is a temporary structure built by 27 containers and offers unique and high-quality gastronomic concepts from Prague’s white tablecloth and Michelin restaurants accessible at...

According to the 2019 Bloomberg Healthiest Country Index, six of the ten healthiest countries in the world are in Europe. In first place came Spain, which jumped from sixth in 2017. Spain is also, according to the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, set to have the highest global life expectancy in 2040—showing that the Iberian nation is leading the way in both quality of life and longevity. The pole compared 169 world economies together and was mainly focused on factors such as eating, obesity, tobacco use, and hygiene. The Czech Republic finished in 29th place. Following Spain is Italy—as it turns out, living la dolce vita is good for your mind, body, and soul. The island of Sardinia in Italy, which has almost 10 times more centenarians per capita than the United States, also follows a Mediterranean diet and encourages an active, outdoor lifestyle with its mild climate. In third place is Iceland, Japan came in fourth, the first Asian country to make the list. Rounding out the top ten were: Switzerland, Sweden, Australia, Singapore, Norway, and Israel. The United States ranked 35th. Researchers analyzed data from the World Health Organization and the World Bank, focusing on environmental conditions and access to clean water in addition to the...
Lennon’s wall at Prague’s Kampa has been for many years a place where various art or messages appear. But now, it is obviously no longer enough for the artists, as they have started to paint on trees in the vicinity of Velkopřevorské Square. The wall is located in the area of Prague 1, and the local town hall is not happy about the decoration on the trees. “It is incomprehensible to us why someone would decide to spray on living trees right next to the oldest legal area in Prague for graffiti,” said city spokesman Kateřina Písačková. She added that according to information from experts, colour on the trees is not harmful, but certainly no more than the mechanism to remove it. “We hope it was a rather unique attempt on “land art” and sprayers realize that the trees are beautiful as they are and they do not need to be beautified,” concluded Písacková. On the outer walls of the Maltese Garden, the first painting appeared after the death of John Lennon in 1980. Over the years, it has become a symbol of resistance against the communist regime, that repainted it several times, even though, the Beatles’ messages, and lyrics...
Lime electric scooters recorded 185,000 rides for the first three months of traffic figures in Prague. The average scooter ride time was 9 minutes, and the average scooter users took advantage of this initiative and rode distances of 1.6 kilometers. Lime deployed Prague’s first scooters on September 28, 2018. Lime began to operate in the city mobility market two years ago when it launched its first custom bicycle system at the campus of the University of North Carolina with which it subsequently expanded into other US states. Last year, in February 2018, the first scooters were introduced, and in June 2018 the green electric scooters arrived in Paris as the first European city. Lime currently operates in 100 world cities across five continents, and green scooter users had driven 25,000,000 journeys by the end of 2018, driving a total distance of 43,000,000 kilometers. The most successful market in the world is in Paris, where 285,000 people used the scooters for half a year. It’s only a matter of time before they reach the milestone figure of three million rides. With the development of cycling routes, Lime would like to help Prague. “Bicycle paths and biking trails are key to the development...

The date stems from “sources familiar with the developments on the banking market,” and has allegedly been confirmed by Apple itself. A spokesman for Česká spořitelna, said only that Apple Pay is currently in testing and that his firm wants to be in the first wave. iPhone owners are already using the feature in some cases, a common occurrence when a country or retailer is on the verge of getting an official announcement. Other first-wave card issuers will allegedly include Air Bank, Komercni bank, Moneta, mBank, and Twisto. Businesses like Fio, Equa, Creditas, and CSOB are expected to deploy support later in 2019. This would be in keeping with a previous rumour suggesting that Apple Pay would launch in the Czech Republic and Slovakia sometime in late February or early March. It’s not clear whether the Slovakia launch will also take place on Feb 19. Apple Pay first launched in the U.S. in October 2014. Its international spread was initially slow, but it has since come to many of the world’s biggest markets, such as China, the U.K., and Germany. Much of Europe is now covered, though other gaps include the likes of Austria, Greece, Hungary, and Romania. The main obstacle towards expansion is...

From just a few photos on their social networks, it is clear to most that this place offers something quite different from what we may be accustomed to in Prague. Is it a club, café or restaurant? Swim has solved this problem on its own – it’s all at the same time. A place where excellent cuisine meets a chic club space. In the very centre of Prague, just a short walk from Wenceslas Square, a new establishment with an original gastro-cultural concept has been created. “Club meets kitchen” is not only the concept but also the motto of this restaurant, bar and club in one. Swim connects two different aesthetics. Upstairs you will find a restaurant, at the bottom is a dance club. Both parts are not completely separate. There is an interesting synergy between them. “This concept is exceptional in the Czech environment. We did not look for inspiration only in Berlin and London, but also in ourselves and in Prague – in what it lacks,” say two of the three owners, Jakub Sedlák and Vojtěch Růžek. “We do not want to be a trendsetter. We simply felt that there was not yet a business in Prague where...

Kavárna Kočičí is a family-run cat cafe located in the heart of Prague. The matriarch of the family was a life-long accountant and cat lover with a daughter that developed a penchant for coffee. Mother and daughter combined their passions and opened the very first cat cafe in Prague. It all started with a TV show about Japanese cat cafes. Unhappy in their jobs at the time, the mother and daughter watched the show together and had the same idea at the same time. They decided to quit their jobs and open a cat cafe of their own. Kavárna Kočičí is proud to be the first cat cafe to work with animal shelters. Each cat that calls the cafe its home has its own unique story. Some of them were unwanted Christmas presents, some were survivors of torture, and some wandered the streets of Prague. The cat cafe gave these unfortunate cats a new opportunity to prove that stray cats can actually become loving pets and friends. The cafe is strictly vegetarian. In fact, most of the baristas are either vegetarian or vegan. One of Kavárna Kočičí’s goals is to show people that vegetarian and vegan food can be quite tasty and provide a...
Czech Tourism, Prague Airport, Central Bohemia Tourism, and Prague City Tourism have all joined forces to spread holiday cheer. To celebrate their subway collaboration on display at the 53rd Street and 5th Avenue station, they’re giving away a trip for two to the Czech Republic for five nights– with airfare included. The agency Loosers is behind the creative idea and the slogan has also added interesting visual processing. On advertising billboards, the most famous monuments (for example the Týnský Cathedral, Prague Castle Cathedral, Clock Tower) are covered with pixels. The campaign to promote tourism in Prague and Central Bohemia will run until the end of the year and includes approximately 1,000 advertising spaces on New York underground trains and 80 advertising spaces in the underground station on 53rd Street and 5th Avenue, right in the center of Manhattan. “The number of serviced passengers on direct flights to North America has grown by almost 67% this year. Next year, we are expecting further increases thanks to a new line to Newark. This confirms the high potential of the US foe increasing the number connections to Prague,” says Václav Řehoř, the Chair of the Board of Directors, Prague Airport. “We are expecting that...
