After eleven years, DámeJdlo.cz, a network for eatery delivery, is rebranding. It will now operate under the name foodora. The company announced it in a press release, adding that the change will be gradual. Smartphone owners will be the first to notice the rebranding in mid-April. The update will be accessible for the first time to iOS users on April 11, and for Android users a few days later, on April 17. In addition to the name and logo change, foodora will also offer new services. These include a PRO subscription, for which customers will get free delivery, discounts on personal order pick-up and other discount promotions. The foodora brand is operated by Delivery Hero, which has owned DámeJídlo.cz since 2015. It operates in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. In addition to the Czech Republic, it will expand to Slovakia, Hungary and Austria from May. DameJidlo recently announced the expansion of its services to deliver purchases from e-shops under the name Dáme Delivery. DameJidlo.cz was launched in October 2010 by Tomas Cupr and quickly became one of the largest food ordering platforms in the Czech Republic.
Galerie Lapidárium in Prague will host a multimedia exhibition entitled “Ukrainian Renaissance” from 4th to 18th April. The project will introduce visitors to iconic Ukrainian artists, unique images, metaphors and a deep philosophy in their work, which is based on the Ukrainian mentality and centuries-old spiritual heritage of Ukraine. Tariffs for electricity and gas for consumers in the Czech Republic, which grew sharply since early 2022, have begun to significantly decrease. The Czech E.ON company has revised electricity and gas tariffs for households since March 31. The tariffs on gas dropped most significantly, which will allow consumers who switch to them to save tens of thousands of crowns (many hundreds of dollars) per year. The cost of kWh for electricity in E.ON is 6.63 crown, including taxes. Competing companies offer households tariffs per kWh well above seven crowns. E.ON’s gas fell to less than two crowns (less than nine cents) per kWh. Thus, households will save an average of 1,800 crowns to 5,000 crowns per year on electricity, depending on whether they live in small apartments or cottages. The new gas tariffs will allow them to save much more annually. Czechia’s magnificent castles, palaces, and national monuments, managed by the National Heritage Institute, will open their doors to the public on Saturday, April 1, as the nation’s tourist season officially starts. On Saturday, April 1, Prague’s Deputy Mayor for Transport Zdeněk Hříb unveiled a new road sign prohibiting entry to trams. The official posted a picture of the novelty on his social media accounts. “Due to numerous requests, we are introducing a new sign prohibiting the entry of trams. Our patience for the negative effects of tram traffic is overflowing. Trams are taking up space on the roads, obstructing the passage of cars and creating traffic jams. Czech Post will shut 56 offices in the Moravian-Silesian Region by the middle of this year, followed by Prague, which will lose 35 branches. Česká pošta will shut between 13 and 24 branches in the remaining areas. In total, the number of branches is to be reduced by 300 to 2,900 by 1 July. The cuts are necessitated by a sharp decline in demand for postal services. According to newly approved regulations every municipality of over 2,500 people must have a post office within a distance of three kilometers, not two which was the previous norm. Prague City Tourism in cooperation with the National Library of the Czech Republic are launching a new route through the premises of Prague’s Clementinum, starting on 1 April. The Baroque Tour can be taken exclusively with a qualified guide, giving tourists the chance to admire the unique building including the Baroque library. This special tourist route, including the Astronomical Tower of the Clementinum, will thus join the eight monuments which Prague City Tourism is currently responsible. The operators expect over 50,000 visitors to the Clementinum in the course of the year. “The National Library of the CR is quite unique, not only in its services to readers and researchers, but also in terms of its historical location. Allegro is preparing to launch its marketplace in the Czech Republic, according to a post on its website Allegro.cz. The post says that “One of the largest European marketplaces is coming to the Czech Republic” and that “The final countdown begins. Soon.” Allegro has been expanding internationally for some time. It acquired Czech e-commerce platform Mall Group and logistics business WeDo in April. It also launched an English language version of its flagship site Allegro.pl in early 2022. “Our team is now focused on the upcoming launch of Allegro.cz in the Czech Republic,” said Roy Perticucci, CEO of the company.
