Despite the increase in the number of tourists, Prague is still not back to pre-Covid numbers. In 2022, over 5.98 million tourists visited Prague staying in hotels, guesthouses, or campsites. Although these numbers are already about 2.5 times more than in 2021, it is still roughly 2 million less than pre-covid year 2019. According to the data from the Czech Statistical Office, the increase in tourism is mainly visible when looking at the number of foreign tourists visiting the city. Prague’s foreign tourists are mainly from Germany, the United States, Poland, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. Travelers from Southeast Asia are still underrepresented with an 86% decrease compared to the summer of 2019, possibly due to ongoing Covid restrictions. However, during last year’s summer months, the city did not go unvisited by Czech visitors themselves. Domestic tourism in Prague has grown to 21,5%, whereas this number was only 15% before the pandemic. This change is considered to be positive, as domestic travelers have the right knowledge to contribute to development of the local culture. “We are very happy that we are succeeding in arousing the interest of domestic tourists in visiting Prague. Our long-term campaign At Home in Prague has...

The news was announced on the website of the Czech Army, which controls VOP CZ. Neither side has released further details about the nature of the cooperation. “The memorandum … contains a specific plan and timetable for the repairs or securing of spare parts,” said Ales Vytecka, director of Czech government’s AMOS agency for military cooperation, who co-signed the memorandum. It is a truth universally acknowledged that Czech cuisine is quite heavy and fatty, so it can be a shock to a foreigner’s system. However, not all of the traditional Bohemian, Moravian, and Silesian dishes are like that. For example, Czechs tend to enjoy soups, which tend to be a little bit lighter. In this article, we’re going to talk about 10 traditional Czech soups. Zeleninová polévka Zeleninová polévka is a Czech vegetable soup that is usually served as a nutritious appetizer. This hearty dish has numerous varieties and can incorporate various root or leafy vegetables. Most commonly, it consists of diced or sliced carrots, celery, and potatoes, but it is easily adjusted to any taste. Next to vegetables, it can also incorporate thin pasta and egg or liver dumplings. Regardless of the varieties, this classic soup is a staple in many Czech households, and is often found on the menus of traditional restaurants. Fazolová Fazolová is a traditional Czech bean soup. Although it appears in numerous varieties, it usually consists of plump white beans cooked in a flavorful broth alongside potatoes, root vegetables, and smoked meat. Occasionally, it can be altered with sour cream or thickened with flour. This...
On 23 February, Kaufland and Lidl retail chains will launch a test project for the take-back of beverage bottles and cans. Each chain will allow customers to return packaging in three of its stores. Spokespeople for both companies, which are part of the Schwarz Group, announced the news in a press release. In the Czech Republic, PET bottles and cans are not yet backed up. However, the Ministry of the Environment is preparing a legislative proposal for possible introduction. Customers who use the service will receive discount coupons for their purchases in shops. Lidl spokesman Tomáš Myler said that the pilot project in stores is intended to support the idea of introducing the backup of PET bottles and cans in the Czech Republic. “Since customers will primarily return beverage containers to retailers if the system is introduced, it is important for us that the setup of the entire system is as customer-friendly as possible,” he added. The chains have not yet indicated in which stores people will be able to try out returning bottles. According to David Surý, director of the environmental protection section of the Ministry of the Environment, the chains’ test project can verify whether people in the...

Sama’ Abdulhadi presents high-octane full-bodied techno with a distinct ark, a spectrum of moods, or as she says: “Berlin techno, but I perceive it in a Lebanese way.” Barely four years into her international career, Sama’ Abdulhadi’s story is at the forefront of a powerful movement. Her goal has always been to put Palestine on the musical map and in doing so she continues to garner international solidarity and a new level of understanding of the Middle East as a whole. She is coming for the first time to the Czech Republic to Roxy Prague on Friday 7/4 The beginnings Born in Jordan, Abdulhadi, 31, moved to Palestine as a child. With a passion for music exhibited at an early age, her first exposure to the Palestinian underground music scene was in 2004. It was a time when hip-hop was the genre of choice in Ramallah parties. It was after moving to Lebanon for a two-year course on analogue synthesizers that she first heard techno music and was immediately enamoured by its darker and propulsive sound. On returning to Palestine in 2009, Abdulhadi showcased her fledgling DJ skills by holding techno parties and introducing it to the music community. While techno’s abrasive sounds initially turned people...
