Clam-Gallas Palace in the Old Town of Prague ranks among the most prominent architectural monuments of Prague and the Czech Republic. One of the prime works of Prague Baroque architecture, it is a splendid example of historical housing and the lifestyle of the aristocrats. On Wednesday, 28 September, it will welcome guests for the first time after four years of reconstruction. The palace was a famous cultural center of Prague. It hosted musical concerts, including Mozart and Beethoven, theatre performances and painting exhibitions. Following World War II the palace housed the City of Prague Archive. The planned cost of the renovation project was around CZK 500,000 and it was due to be completed last year. The palace is situated on a large construction site comprised of a four-wing Baroque building around the central square courtyard. In response to the energy crisis, the Ministry of Health is proposing to reduce the minimum permissible temperatures in the working environment. As iRozhlas reports, for drivers, workers on assembly lines, or cashiers, the temperature should drop from the current 18 to 16 degrees Celsius. It should drop from 20 to 18 degrees in changing rooms, from 22 to 19 degrees in washrooms, from 25 to 19 degrees in showers and from 18 to 15 degrees in toilets. The draft amendment to the Occupational Health Regulation will be discussed by the government on Monday. “The main reason is to revise the legal framework in relation to minimum temperature requirements in the workplace in view of the current situation. Natural gas supplies are being reduced and interrupted, when a further increase and persistence of the energy crisis is expected,” the ministry said in a memorandum. The current set temperatures date back to 2007. “It is a temperature that no one is allowed to low,” added Válek. According to him, the ministry consulted sanitation workers and compared the proposal with other countries. The Fragment rental housing project is emerging in Karlín and will be “supported” by three torsos and one larger-than-life figure designed by Czech artist David Černý. So far, Černý has installed the foot and hand of one of the giants. The largest figure, which is roughly 25 meters tall, will be assembled in Černý’s studio and attached to the building in its entirety. Construction of the apartment building should be completed by the end of this year. The appearance of the building refers back to Invalidovna’s original purpose and builds an imaginary bridge between history and the present as it evokes a reclining figure being taken care of by David Černý’s grand sculptures. The shape of the apartments’ rooms will mirror the repeating modules that the building is made up of, which create a fragmented impression when seen from afar. The Czech Republic will not issue humanitarian visas to Russian citizens fleeing mobilisation orders, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky said on Thursday. Many Russians are trying to leave their country after President Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilisation on Wednesday as Russian forces fighting in Ukraine have suffered heavy losses. “I understand that Russians are fleeing from ever more desperate decisions by Putin. The idea of naming the space – where The English College stands – after the British Queen has been approved by the councillors of Prague 9. Vysočany thus wants to pay its respects to the monarch and commemorate her memory, said Prague 9 spokeswoman Marie Kurková. Archaeologists digging near Prague have discovered the remains of a Stone Age structure that’s older than Stonehenge and even the Egyptian pyramids: an enigmatic complex known as a roundel. Nearly 7,000 years ago during the late Neolithic, or New Stone Age, a local farming community may have gathered in this circular building, although its true purpose is unknown. The excavated roundel is large — about 55 meters in diameter, or about as long as the Leaning Tower of Pisa is tall. And while “it is too early to say anything about the people building this roundel,” it’s clear that they were part of the Stroked Pottery culture, which flourished between 4900 B.C. and 4400 B.C., Jaroslav Řídký, a spokesperson for the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IAP) and an expert on the Czech Republic’s roundels, told Live Science in an email. Prague Airport has managed a strong summer season without major complications. From June to August, over 3.8 million passengers were handled, which is one-third less than in the record year 2019.
