The Czech government has decided that it will not make coronavirus vaccination mandatory. The Czech Republic’s new center-right government will not make vaccination against COVID-19 compulsory, scrapping the previous cabinet’s decree requiring people over the age of 60 and workers in healthcare, and social care and security services to get the jab from March, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said on Wednesday. “This does not change our stance on vaccination, it is still undoubtedly the best way to fight COVID-19 … However, we do not see reasons for compulsory vaccination, we do not want to deepen trenches in the society,” Fiala told a news conference. On 17 January, the Czech capital revealed that it will host the 12th edition of the largest European education festival: Science on Stage. The 2022 event will take place on 24-27 March at the Clarion Congress Hotel Prague in Vysočany and will mark the first time that Science on Stage comes to the Czech Republic. As a partner of the festival, the City of Prague has decided to allocate CZK 2 million for its organisation and operation. Noting that the Science on Stage 2022 fair carries tremendous importance, Councillor for education Vít Šimral shared: “The festival, of which Prague is a proud partner, is a significant contribution to the inspiration and networking of teachers across Europe. This is an extraordinary opportunity for Prague and non-Prague teachers to gain stimuli and motivation in simple experiments and projects that will help them enrich and change their own teaching.” According to the Czech municipality, around 450 primary and secondary school teachers from over 30 countries will attend the 2022 fair. Authorities said 28,469 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Tuesday, more than double the 12,371 reported for Tuesday of last week. Screening increased this week with the introduction of twice-weekly tests at all workplaces. The previous one-day record was just under 28,000 on 25 November last year. Experts say up to 50,000 cases a day could be recorded in the coming weeks due to a surge in the Omicron variant of the virus. Omicron is now the dominant coronavirus variant in the central European country of 10.7 million people. Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s centre-right government will consider what further steps to take after shortening quarantine and isolation times as part of new measures while also launching mandatory testing of employees at companies from this week. Asymptomatic essential healthcare workers and social service personnel who test positive for COVID-19 are allowed to continue working. Hospitalizations, which peaked at more than 7,000 in early December, dropped to 1,635 on Tuesday from 1,761 reported for Monday.

So now there will be the theatre, sauna, a concert… and an urgent trip to the sea,’ she added. Horka went for a walk outside but when she returned she started to complain about back pain and soon after, died choking in her bed. In Q3 2021, the Czech Republic registered the strongest house price growth within the EU, both in a year-on-year (22%) and a quarter-on-quarter (7.3%) comparison, well above the EU average of 9.2% and 3.1%, respectively, according to Eurostat’s House price index.
