The Czech Republic will not take part in this year’s UN conference against racism taking place in September in New York. “I’ve taken this decision due to historic concerns regarding antisemitism and the misuse of the platform for attacks against Israel,” stated Czech Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhánek, adding that the country will continue to fight against racism and discrimination. The so-called Durban conference will mark the 20th anniversary of the World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance and the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. Austria and the Netherlands have already decided to boycott the event. Last week, the UK said it was joining the US, Canada and Australia in boycotting Durban IV this September, “following historic concerns regarding antisemitism.” France is also expected to pull out, a diplomatic source said last month, but it has not yet issued an official statement. The Czech Republic will halve the waiting time to get a second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine to three weeks, Health Minister Adam Vojtech said on Monday, as the country races to boost vaccinations and fend off new coronavirus variants. Spain on Monday has listed most areas of the Czech Republic as risk area due to the rising number of coronavirus infections in the country. South Moravia has been exempted from the new requirements for the time being. Czechs traveling to Spain will need a PCR or antigen test that is not older than 48 hours, or a certificate of full vaccination, or proof of recovery. In Kladruby nad Labem, 25 km from Pardubice, are the oldest stables in the world, a place surrounded by meadows, pastures, lanes, and the remains of the ancient riparian forests on the Czech banks of the Elba and its tributaries. This is where the Kladruber comes from. These white horses with an elegant gait that inspire respect with their 700 kg weight and big deep eyes. One of these horses became famous as the government decided to dedicate it as a wedding gift to the dukes of Cambridge, William, and Kate, in April 2011. Kladrubers were bred to serve as ceremonial carriage horses at the Habsburg courts in Vienna and Prague. A warm-blooded breed based on Spanish and Italian horses, a convex head with a Roman nose is among their significant features. Unemployment in the Czech Republic fell for the fourth month in a row. It fell to 3.7 percent in June, which is two-tenths of a percentage point less than in May and the same as last June. Another four metro stations in Prague now have mobile coverage, Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib announced on Friday. They are the Vysočanská, Kolbenova, and Hloubětín stations on the B line and Kobylisy on the C line of the Prague underground. As of today, 50 stations out of 61 are covered with LTE services. The remaining stations should be covered by the end of the year with the exception of Jiřího z Poděbrad which will be undergoing extensive renovation. According to the previous plan, the entire metro should be covered with a mobile signal by early 2022. To provide complete 4G LTE coverage in its metro tunnels, DPP has installed a radiating cable (approximately 5 cm diameter) type network. The only exception to this is in the newest section of Metro Line A – Bořislavka, Nádraží Veleslavín, Petřiny and Nemocnice Motol – where an LTE network, providing phone and high-speed data connectivity, was installed as part of the initial construction. Prices for some tickets on the Prague Integrated Transit (PID) system will increase on August 1, but the annual pass will remain the same. Tickets for 30 minutes on the city’s buses, trams and metro in Prague system will increase in price from CZK 24 to CZK 30. Ninety-minute tickets will go up from the current CZK 32 to CZK 40. Paying fines for fare-dodging in Prague has become easier. Prague Public Transport (DPP) introduced a new possibility of paying a fine online via their official e-shop. If a passenger does not have a ticket, he/she has the opportunity to pay the reduced amount of CZK 800 through the e-shop within 5 working days. If you don’t have a valid ticket, the basic fine is CZK 1,500, which is reduced to CZK 800, if you pay immediately or within 15 calendar days of the ticket inspection. In 2019, DPP inspectors checked 6.8 million passengers and imposed over 247,000 fines, 5.6 percent more year-on-year. From 2019, the fine can also be paid by card during the inspection.
