President Milos Zeman will leave for another part of his summer holiday on Thursday, from which he will come back in mid-August, spending the time mostly at the presidential chateau in Lany, central Bohemia, his spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said. The holiday is to begin on August 1 and will last “approximately until mid-August,” Ovcacek said. Zeman already took holiday in late June, early July this summer when he stayed in his house in Nove Veseli, south Moravia, after visiting the Vysocina Region. He interrupted his holiday because of the dispute around the replacement of the culture minister. Early in May, Mr. Babiš and the Social Democrats requested the removal Mr. Staněk, whom they accused of being ineffective. At the same time, they asked to replace him with the Social Democrats’ pick Michal Šmarda. The delay led the Social Democrats to threaten to leave the government coalition. During 4 days visitors and residents of Prague will be able to see some of the best new films from all over the world presented by international filmmakers. According to officials, it wasn’t done by the company the city selected to do it and nobody else claimed the responsibility yet. Graffiti on Charles Bridge, which restorers began removing on Saturday, disappeared unexpectedly overnight. “The restorers worked on the site on Saturday until five o’clock in the afternoon. When they arrived at 10:00 in the morning the day after, the graffiti were removed,” TSK spokesman said. Tests are now underway to determine whether the substance used had damaged the stones of the centuries old monument. Two foreigners both from Germany were arrested on Monday evening, July 22 while spray-painting a five-meter long and two-meter high graffiti on the Charles Bridge. They were caught in the act after a bystander called the police. The two mischief-makers have been fined 100,000 Kc each (around 4,000 euros) and ordered to cover up the cost of cleaning and restoration. The Charles Bridge is currently undergoing an extensive reconstruction that could last for up to 20 years. Located in a whimsical part of Prague that many tourists do not venture to, is the abandoned Vyšehrad Train Station. This Art Nouveau gem sits quietly in her old grandeur, a crumbling boarded up beauty laden with grafiti just waiting (like many other gorgeous structures in the city of Prague) for a new facelift. The neighborhood is beautiful as well as it is surrounded by the Cubist homes of Vyšehrad such as the Kovarovic Villa, the ancient Vyšehrad fortress, the fabled Vltava River and the Charles University Botanic Gardens. New Town Hall and the Municipal District Prague 2 have prepared an interesting programme for the anniversary of the First Defenestration of Prague, running until the 31st of July. You can take part in guided tours, an open-air cinema in the New Town Hall courtyard and other events in Karlovo náměstí. The Prague 1 District Court gave two German tourists a one-year suspended sentence for spraying on the 14th century Charles Bridge, the oldest bridge in Prague, and expelled them from the Czech Republic for five years, court spokeswoman Pavla Hajkova has told CTK. The perpetrators must also pay a 100,000-crown fine and cover the damage of 40,000 crowns each. The two men, aged 23 and 30, were caught by police spraying a 5-by-2 meter logo on a stone bridge support. A local resident saw them in action and called the police. Zdeněk Hřib, the mayor of Prague, condemned the act, saying that “spraying Charles bridge is a complete cultural barbarism”. The mayor also reminded that there were several places in Prague where it was perfectly legal to create graffiti.
