Tony Bargig, a 54-year-old Israeli casino owner and former gambling kingpin, reportedly murdered in Prague in a case still under investigation. Israeli businessman Tony Bargig, a casino owner in Prague once known in Israel as the “King of Slot Machines,” was killed early Thursday on Seifertova Street in Prague 3. He was 54. No official details were immediately released about the circumstances of his death or the identity of any suspects. His suspected murder drew comparisons in Israel to the 2002 assassination in Prague of Felix Abutbul, a notorious Israeli underworld kingpin. A former soccer player, Bargig was the son of Nino Bargig, a veteran soccer coach who died in 2023 at 84. Nino Bargig was a prominent figure in Israeli soccer and coached several mid-tier teams over the years, including Hapoel Rishon Lezion, Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Hapoel Jerusalem, Hapoel Yehud and Maccabi Sha’arayim. Alongside his business activity in Prague, Tony Bargig’s name had previously surfaced in one of Israel’s largest gambling cases. According to an indictment, he operated a network of about 15 gambling houses from 2008 to 2014 in Rishon Lezion, Be’er Yaakov, Mishmar Hashiv’a and other communities. Bargig was previously convicted in 2004 and 2009 in connection...
RefuFest will return to Prague on June 20, 2026, marking its 20th anniversary edition at VILA Štvanice Theatre and the surrounding outdoor area. The event, organised by the non-profit InBáze, will coincide with World Refugee Day and run under the motto “Courage. Resilience. Responsibility.” RefuFest has long been focused on intercultural exchange and community life in Prague. Organisers say the aim is to create an open space where people from the Czech Republic and abroad can meet through music, food and shared experiences. “This year’s motto reflects the need to return to basic values in a time of uncertainty,” said Barbora Hanzalová from InBáze. Co-organiser Jana Remenárová added that the festival continues to focus on dialogue and mutual understanding. The music programme will feature a mix of international and Czech artists. Among the highlights is the All Star Refjúdží Band, bringing together musicians from China, Kurdistan, Armenia and the United States. Other performances include Cumbia Cooperativa with Afro-Caribbean rhythms, and Balkanzor, a multinational band combining influences from Spain, Peru, France, Greece, Bulgaria and Czechia. Marriage numbers in the Czech Republic have fallen to their lowest level this century, continuing a trend that shows no sign of reversing. In 2025, 42,548 couples got married, according to the Czech Statistical Office. The figure marks a new low and follows several years of gradual decline. The trend is not new, but its direction is becoming more pronounced. In 2013, 43,499 marriages were recorded, a long-time low at the time. A decade later, 2024 saw around 44,500 weddings, briefly interrupting expectations of a steady recovery. The question increasingly raised in Czech society is why fewer people are choosing marriage. One factor is the changing role of marriage in society. Living together without marriage has become standard, and having children outside marriage no longer carries social stigma. Same-sex couples are openly accepted, and long-term relationships are increasingly viewed as valid without formal registration. This shift has reduced the pressure to marry, according to life coach Aleš Kalina, who says that fewer weddings do not automatically mean weaker relationships, but rather different forms of partnership. Practical considerations also play a role. Marriage still offers legal advantages, including inheritance rights, tax benefits, and clearer arrangements regarding children, but many couples see...
Prague Museum Night returns on June 13th, offering free or discounted admission at more than 60 venues across the city. One of the biggest additions in 2026 is the participation of the National Gallery Prague. As part of the event, visitors will be able to access several of its major sites, including the Schwarzenberg Palace, Šternberk Palace, Salm Palace and the Convent of St. Agnes. Other newcomers include Rothmayer Villa and Signal Space, a digital art venue located in Prague’s historic center. Signal Space will present its immersive exhibition Echoes of Tomorrow, alongside an interactive children’s zone and a selection of video mapping projects previously featured at the Signal Festival. The heart of this year’s event will once again be the recently renovated Main Building of the Museum of Prague in Florenc. The neo-Renaissance landmark reopened to the public six months ago after a five-year restoration project and will serve as the main meeting point throughout the evening. Outdoor activities will begin at 4 p.m., while the museum building itself opens at 6 p.m. Visitors will be able to explore the museum’s permanent exhibition City in Time, visit the Tělák exhibition and take part in creative workshops designed for children...
A 700-meter concrete wall in Prague 6 is about to become a landmark of contemporary street art. Starting June 15, thirty artists from the Czech Republic and abroad will spend two weeks painting Mural Ruzyně — a project that, once complete, will rank as the third longest collaborative mural in Europe. The wall runs along Vlastina Street in Ruzyně and has long been one of those forgotten stretches of urban infrastructure that nobody really looks at. By the end of June, that changes. What Is Mural Ruzyně The project is initiated by the Prague 6 municipal district and carried out by The Chemistry Gallery as part of the Urban Pictus festival — a biennial event now in its third edition, running from June to September 2026. The painted surface will cover roughly 1,800 square meters, wrapping the theme “The Beauty of the City in Motion” across the full length of the wall. The work runs June 15–30, and the public is welcome to watch the process unfold on site. Who Is Painting It The lineup spans both established names and internationally recognized figures. From the Czech scene: Michal Škapa, Toy Box, Chemis, Sany, and Jakub Tytykalo. The international roster includes...
Summer in Prague means one thing: outdoor concerts. Among the city’s most established warm-weather traditions, Prague Open Air returns this season with 20 performances spread across two venues, running from early June through the first week of September. The festival draws a mix of Czech headliners and international acts. This year’s foreign bookings include British electronic duo Kosheen and Celtic punk veterans Dropkick Murphys — two names that need no introduction for anyone who spent time near a radio or mosh pit in the early 2000s. On the domestic side, fans can expect Rozálie, Mig 21, and David Koller, among others. How It Starts — and How It Ends The opening night falls on Wednesday, June 3, with Wohnout taking the stage at Energy Pub in Riegrovy sady. The curtain closes on September 8 at the same location, where Jasná Páka will deliver the final set of the season. Two Venues, Two Atmospheres All concerts take place at one of two locations: Energy Pub in Riegrovy sady, one of Prague’s most beloved hilltop beer gardens, and Areál7 in Holešovice, an industrial-edged event space in one of the city’s fastest-changing neighborhoods. Making friends as an adult isn’t always easy. For many people in Prague, especially those who have recently moved to the city, work often becomes the main social outlet. Finding new connections outside the office can take time. Sport has long been one of the easiest ways to meet people, but joining a club or committing to a competitive team isn’t for everyone. That’s where Prague-based VIVA Sports comes in. Founded in 2024, VIVA Sports organizes recreational leagues, tournaments, and open play sessions across the city. The goal is simple: give people a chance to stay active while meeting others who share the same interests. The organization offers beach volleyball, football, pickleball, and other activities throughout the year. Participants can either sign up for a single session or join one of the eight-week leagues. For those who are unsure whether a league is right for them, open play sessions provide a low-pressure alternative. Players register for a single event, show up, and join a game. No team is required, and there is no long-term commitment. Czech law enforcement has opened a criminal investigation into four individuals and one company suspected of human trafficking and the exploitation of young women through social media platforms, including OnlyFans. The case is being handled by the National Centre against Organized Crime. Investigators say the group is believed to have targeted young women, many of them newly adults and in difficult financial or social situations, and to have used coordinated manipulation tactics to recruit them into producing erotic content. According to the police, the suspects approached victims and persuaded them to create explicit photos and videos. The women were then asked to sign contracts under the guise of artistic representation. In many cases, the victims did not have access to the accounts that were created in their name, nor control over the content or personal data used on those profiles. Authorities say the material was subsequently monetised through paid subscriptions. Investigators also found that pressure was applied on the women to produce increasingly explicit content over time. According to the findings, threats involving financial penalties and contractual fines were used as a form of coercion. Police estimate that the group generated at least 3.6 million Czech crowns from the activity....

It is hard to forget Travis Scott’s show in Prague a few years ago, when the O2 Arena was transformed into a sold-out venue that echoed far beyond the Czech capital. This autumn, another major name from global rap is heading to the same stage. A$AP Rocky will perform in Prague, bringing a catalogue of songs streamed billions of times worldwide. A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, rose to international attention in 2011 and has since remained one of the most visible figures in modern hip hop. His music has accumulated more than 25 billion streams globally, while his videos have surpassed 8.8 billion views on YouTube. His catalogue includes tracks such as Praise the Lord, Babushka Boi and Highjack, which helped shape his global profile. He has also built a strong presence outside music, becoming known for his work in fashion, visual culture, and brand collaborations. He currently serves as creative director for Ray-Ban. On Sunday, October 4, he will perform at Prague’s O2 Arena. The concert is expected to bring both his best-known tracks and material from his recent work, including his latest album Don’t Be Dumb. The show follows a period in which Rocky has expanded into film...
The Czech Republic has improved its position in the latest EU Prosperity Index 2025, ranking 14th out of 27 member states. This marks its strongest result since the index was first published in 2022, when the country placed slightly higher at 13th. At the top of the ranking are Sweden, Denmark and Finland. Greece remains in last place, followed by Bulgaria and Slovakia. The country’s overall improvement was driven mainly by the “State of the Economy” indicator, which rose five places year-on-year. With a ninth-place result in this category, the Czech Republic now ranks among the ten most economically stable EU countries. The development reflects easing inflationary pressure and a shift in income distribution. The share of gross national income in GDP increased from 95% to 99%, suggesting that a larger portion of wealth generated in the economy remains within the country. Despite these gains, the index highlights persistent structural weaknesses. Housing remains one of the main pressure points. The Czech Republic ranks 23rd in the EU in this area. The average price of an apartment equals 13.6 annual salaries, and around 10% of households spend more than 40% of their income on housing costs. Digitalisation also continues to lag...
