Many cities have iconic spots where tourists flock to take playful photographs, often transported by tour buses. Take Pisa, for example, where visitors use perspective tricks to appear as though they are holding up the leaning tower. In Prague, a similar scenario unfolds with the Dancing House, where the favored pose is “kicking the building.” Recently, Prague City reseeded the lawn at Jiráskovo náměstí, which had been damaged by tourists taking the classic photo to share on social media. While the area is currently fenced off, it is expected to reopen to the public soon. The municipality plans to implement some restrictions to protect the newly planted grass. Andrea Zoulová, spokesperson for Prague 2, stated that the municipality has been warning about the park’s poor condition, vandalism, and frequent disorder since 2018. “Following an agreement with Prague 2’s management and complaints from citizens, we have revitalized the grass around the monument,” said Vít Hofman, spokesperson for the municipality. However, affected flights at Prague Airport are being processed using an alternative system or manually. Departures to Amsterdam and Zurich have been suspended. Riegrovy Sady, named after the famous Czech politician F. L. Rieger, is one of the most popular spots in Prague. According to a new analysis by the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR), the number of foreigners in Prague has been steadily increasing. From 2001 to 2022, the foreign population rose from 61,000 to 345,000, making one in four Prague residents a foreigner. This growth has significantly influenced the city’s demographic development over the past two decades. Most of these foreigners are of working age, providing essential labor for the capital’s economy. A 450% Increase in Foreign Residents Data from the Foreign Police shows a more than 450% increase in foreigners in Prague from 2001 to 2022. Today, foreigners consist of 25% of the city’s population. This trend accelerated in 2022 due to the influx of refugees from Ukraine following the war. Origins of Prague’s Foreign Population Of the 345,000 foreigners in the city, nearly 40% of all foreigners in the Czech Republic reside in Prague. The largest groups come from Ukraine (170,000), Slovakia (31,000), and Russia (27,000), with significant numbers from Vietnam (15,000). On Tuesday, July 16, the Prague Zoo announced the birth of a baby Nubian giraffe. Although the baby girl was born two weeks ago, the zoo waited to share the news due to concerns about her condition. Shortly after birth, it was noticed that her left front leg lacked stability. Fortunately, walking on a hard surface and her mother’s attentive care helped correct the issue without the need for veterinary intervention. A team led by the management of the National Museum (NM) in Prague is developing a concept for a multimedia museum dedicated to world cultures, named Museum of the World – Museum Mundi. This innovative museum could be built above the roofed tracks of the main station. Investors had previously announced that a public building would be constructed there. If all goes well, construction could commence within seven years, according to Michal Lukeš, the director general of the National Museum in Prague. “There hasn’t been a new museum building in Prague since the National Technical Museum.
