Pivo Na Naplavce (Beer at Náplavka) festival combines two of our favorite things about Prague. Spend the weekend hanging out by the river and trying some of the Czech Republic’s best microbrews. The traditional festival of 50 micro and mini-breweries, which will take place this year on the Rašínovo embankment in Prague 2. This is the tenth anniversary of the event. The festival will take place on Friday the 14th and Saturday the 15th of June. It will present also beer-pairing gastronomy and live music. Admission to the Pivo Na Naplavce festival and the accompanying cultural program will be free, but the condition for beer tasting will be the purchase of our 0.3L glass mug. “We expect around 4,000 people this year,” said Jiří Sedláček, director of the Pivo Na Naplavce festival. “Visitors can look forwarded to 15 food stalls which will serve different food. There will be burger stalls, various grilled meat delicacies, Belgian fries, Balkan specialties, artisanal pizza, quality Czech sausages, French sausages, burgundy snails, cheese balls and, in addition, quality coffee,” added Sedláček. A new tactile model of the entire Old Town Square has been installed in a small park behind the Old Town Hall in the center of Prague. This model is designed with accurate proportions and key details, allowing blind residents and tourists to understand one of the city’s main landmarks by touch. The bronze model, built at a 1:330 scale, includes the Old Town Hall, three churches, and 200 houses from the surrounding streets. This initiative is part of the charity project “Touch Prague’s History” by the non-profit organization Rotary Club Praha City, with support from the Prague 1 district. Residents and visitors to Prague will soon have a new point to admire the city center. The roof of the main building in the newly constructed Masaryčka office complex, designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, will open to the public in the summer of 2024. The terrace will feature a café with a green seating area and accessible restrooms. The entrance will be completely barrier-free, ensuring everyone can enjoy the view. While the exact opening date of the café is yet to be announced, the rooftop has already been landscaped. Trees, shrubs, and flowers have been planted, wooden paths laid, and benches installed. A 3,000-square-meter green garden spans the roofs of both buildings in the complex. The Red Bull Racing team will hold a Formula 1 car demonstration run in Prague on Saturday, 17 August, as part of the international Red Bull Showrun. Residents and visitors of Prague can enjoy a visit to the Musoleum Museum with a reduced ticket price (CZK 150) showcasing the works of renowned Czech artist David Černý on 15 June. Between 2001 and 2022, the number of foreigners living in Prague increased from 61,000 to 345,000. This means that foreigners now make up about a quarter of the city’s population. Without this influx, Prague’s population would be slightly decreasing. This data comes from an analysis by the city’s Institute of Planning and Development (IPR), presented to city councillors on Monday. The majority of these foreigners come from Ukraine, Slovakia, Russia, and Vietnam. The report indicates that the growth in the foreign population was significantly impacted by Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February 2022, which led to over 100,000 Ukrainian refugees relocating to Prague. The Vltava River in Prague has reached the first level of flood activity today due to heavy rains. As a result, the flood gates at Čertovka and parts of the embankments are being closed. The Festival of Microbreweries at Prague Castle is an annually event taking place in the beautiful premises of the Royal Garden of Prague Castle, on Střelecka cesta below the Royal Summer Palace. Microbreweries are the waters of life and a modern phenomenon of brewing skills. Twenty-five years ago there only existed one microbrewery in the Czech Republic, the brewery U Fleků; today there are approximately 170. The organizer is the Czech-Moravian Association of Microbreweries, which aims to present to the public the production of microbreweries from all over the Czech Republic. The participation of 51 Czech and Moravian breweries has already been confirmed, as well as the participation of guests, which this year are breweries from Hungary.
