After a four-year break, Prague will host the annual “Night of Museums” event (Pražská muzejní noc 2024). As part of the event, more than 30 museums and galleries will open for free visits during the evening and night. The event will take place on Saturday, June 15, from 19:00 to 24:00. Its main goal is to popularize culture and attract young people to museums. Many of them will offer guests not only free entrance but also an informative and entertaining program. The days when Prague’s population added up to an exact one million are long gone, with the current population at 1.3 million still increasing by approximately ten thousand people annually. According to an analysis by the Association for Real Estate Market Development, the capital’s population is expected to grow by an additional 400,000 by 2050. At the same time, demand for housing nationwide has long exceeded supply, posing a dilemma for the booming population of Prague. “While demographic trends and forecasts predict a continuous increase in Prague’s population, indirectly emphasizing the expected rise in housing demand, the current system of building permits and new construction is headed completely in the opposite direction” stated the Trend Analysis of the Association for Real Estate Market Development. “In order to maximize the potential of Prague’s real estate market, housing supply would have to at least double and be frequently supplemented through various residential projects. The Czech Railway Administration (SŽ) is seeking an architect to design the new railway bridge at Výtoň. Prague is tightening its grip on shared scooter and bike companies. The City Council is preparing contracts that will require operators to pay for occupying public space and face penalties for non-compliance. These moves follow growing complaints from residents about inconsiderate parking and safety concerns, particularly regarding scooters left on sidewalks. Bolt and Lime will be subject to the new regulations. The plan involves securing permission from city districts for scooter and bike parking in designated areas, including existing bicycle stands, designated traffic zones near crossings, and larger open spaces.
