Starbucks has opened its first Reserve Store in Central Europe in Prague, offering unique coffee and preparation methods. The coffee shop chain has reopened a branch on Jungmannovo náměstí, bringing the Reserve store concept, a completely new format of Starbucks coffee shops. Starbucks Reserve is a series of premium Starbucks cafes that serve rare blends of coffee worldwide. Saxophonist Felix Slováček and other friends, colleagues of Karel Gott have opened a memorial café, Café Karel, in the centre of Prague. The café is located on Dlouhá Street in the arcade next to the theatre. It is dedicated to the most successful Czech singer of popular music of all time. Often referred to as the “golden voice of Prague” and the “Sinatra of the East,” singer, actor, and painter Karel Gott’s career spanned six decades. Emerging in the early ’60s, Gott’s first solo single, a rendering of Henry Mancini’s “Moon River,” helped put him on the map, and as the years progressed he dabbled in everything from pop, rock, and country to opera and swing. Able to entertain in Russian, English, German, and Italian, as well as his native Czech, Gott was hugely popular in Eastern Europe, but also found favor with audiences in Western Europe and the United States. Well-known Festival Spectaculare will be back this spring to bring you some audiovisual inspiration while celebrating its 10-year anniversary. A display of 480 pairs of shoes, representing the disappeared civilians in Ukraine, was staged on Old Town Square in Prague today. Amnesty International, together with Ukrainian designer Margarita Chala, aimed to bring the atmosphere of fear and hopelessness closer to the public. The project’s goal, according to the movement, is to call for an investigation into Russian war crimes in Ukraine as soon as possible. According to Irena Hůlova, head of advocacy at AI’s Czech branch, the pairs of shoes symbolize only a fraction of the lives lost due to this war. For anyone nostalgic for the popular Signal festival or seeking to be immersed in artistic play with darkness and light, the newly opened Lumia Gallery in Prague’s Celetná Street is a must-visit. The gallery replaces traditional wax mannequins with interactive projections, water simulations, and sensory tunnels. Lumia Gallery has been open for over three months and was created by Filip Kočík, also known as Feex, a photographer, artist, and producer who had been considering opening the gallery for almost a decade. The PID Lítačka mobile application used to purchase tickets and coupons for public transport in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region has a new function. Users can now easily pay for car parking in Prague’s paid parking zones through the app. With a credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, it is now possible to pay both the public transport fare and the car parking fee with a single app. According to Aktuálně.cz, the new features announced by the Prague City Council are already active. Adam Scheinherr, Prague’s deputy mayor for transport, stated in a broadcast on ČRo Plus that “this new function is much more convenient for the user. They have their ticket saved there, and the app also notifies them when the paid parking has expired. Despite the increase in the number of tourists, Prague is still not back to pre-Covid numbers. In 2022, over 5.98 million tourists visited Prague staying in hotels, guesthouses, or campsites. Although these numbers are already about 2.5 times more than in 2021, it is still roughly 2 million less than pre-covid year 2019. According to the data from the Czech Statistical Office, the increase in tourism is mainly visible when looking at the number of foreign tourists visiting the city. Prague’s foreign tourists are mainly from Germany, the United States, Poland, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. Travelers from Southeast Asia are still underrepresented with an 86% decrease compared to the summer of 2019, possibly due to ongoing Covid restrictions. However, during last year’s summer months, the city did not go unvisited by Czech visitors themselves. The Czech Republic’s largest craft beer festival, Pražský Festival Piva 2023, is taking place on March 31st and April 1st at the Prague Tržnice in Holešovice. Over 50 breweries, including 26 international ones from 18 different countries, will be in attendance. Three of these breweries, Cloudwater Brew Co, Siren Craft Brew, and Amager Bryghus, are among the top 100 craft beer breweries according to ratebeer.com. The Bohemia building was originally built as a restaurant for the Jubilee Exhibition in 1891, making it one of the oldest buildings at the Exhibition Grounds.
