The Prague Congress Center (Kongresové centrum Praha) will host the charity beer festival Drink for Ukraine on June 4. The festival will be attended by more than 40 breweries from different parts of the Czech Republic. The funds will also be used for humanitarian aid for people affected by the Russian army invasion. “We, Czech brewers, want to do our best to alleviate the suffering of Ukrainian children and mothers. Come to the Congress Center on June 4 and try beer from more than 40 breweries. Every crown will be transferred to the account of the charitable organization Člověk v tísni, which sends humanitarian convoys not only to the border but also to the inner regions of Ukraine. Prague’s zoo has introduced a pair of critically endangered Chinese pangolins to the public. It is only the second animal park on the European continent to have the animals. The arrival of the rare acquisition from Taiwan follows a political fallout with Beijing that prevented the expected arrival of a pair of giant pandas. Guo Bao, the male pangolin, and Run Hou Tang, the female, came from the Taipei zoo, the leading breeder of the mammals that are hunted heavily for their scales and meat. It is estimated almost 200,000 were trafficked in 2019 because of the scales that are used in traditional medicine in Asia and elsewhere. A few years ago, Prague was expecting to receive pandas after it signed a partnership agreement with the Chinese capital in 2016. But those hopes came to an end just three years later when Prague decided to revoke the sister-city agreement with Beijing, an action that angered China. On Tuesday, June 28, you can visit the Lobkowicz palác, usually closed to tourists, for free. From 14:00 to 19:00, guests will be able to explore the interior of the Baroque palace, built in 1702. Lobkowicz Palace is one of the most important High-Baroque buildings in Prague. It was projected by famous Baroque architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi and there is a large decorative garden behind it. It has been a seat of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Prague since 1973. It became an important place in 1989: thousands of citizens of the former GDR could move to the FRG from this palace at the time. The embassy will organize an exhibition of German tourism regions, food tents and other accompanying programs. The palace was planned with two facades: those of street side and the more impressive garden front. The Lobkowicz family acquired the palace in 1753, and it was given its Late-baroque appearance by Ignác Johann Palliardi in 1769. The new Vltava Philharmonic will be built by the Danish architectural studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Prague City selected a total of 19 applicants in an international competition. The Vltava Philharmonic Hall should have a total of three auditoria: the main concert hall for about 1800 persons, a smaller hall for chamber music with a capacity of 700 seats and a multifunctional hall for other genres and events with a capacity of up to 500 seats. Bjarke Ingels Group plans to complete the new building, which will cost the city about six billion crowns, in 2032. The main concert hall should offer state-of-the-art acoustics, excellent spatial and visual characteristics and facilities corresponding to 21st century standards. People will probably no longer be able to drink alcohol after midnight (until 9 am) on either the right embankment at Podskalí or the left one at Hořejší nábřeží in Smíchov. Consumption of alcoholic beverages should not be allowed in about 1000 other places in the metropolis. The measure could take effect on 1 July. This is a proposal for an amendment to the decree on alcohol consumption in public places, which was discussed by Prague councilors on Monday. The amendment was supported by SPOLU (the coalition of TOP 09 and STAN parties) and Praha Sobě. Prague City Hall councillors have voted to make Czech singer Marta Kubišová an honorary citizen, the Czech News Agency reports. Kubišová will receive the citizenship for her achievements in the realm of Czech culture, as well as for her personal bravery shown during the 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia and during the subsequent normalisation era. Youth Marta Kubišová was born on November 1, 1942, in České Budějovice, during the height of WWII. She lived with her grandparents, mother, father, and brother. As the communists strengthened their grip over the country, the family moved to Poděbrady. Her father was a cardiologist. He closed his practice in 1953 because he did not want to comply with the regime, leading to his imprisonment for 3-6 months. Her mother was a housewife. Marta dreamed of studying at a university, but was told to find work in a factory because she would not be “approved” for higher education. Kotva’s entire fourth floor, with an area of over 2,000 square meters, will display some of the almost 12,000 objects that were acquired through a national collection in 2018. The museum will officially open this Wednesday, May 18. Visitors will be able to see how people lived in Czechoslovakia during the so-called normalization from 1970-1980. The organizers divided the museum into five main sections, showing the main components of the life of an average citizen of Czechoslovakia. The first section showcases the interiors of a typical apartment and offices of that time. The second one shows pieces of furniture made by Czechoslovak manufacturers. The third is about objects and design elements used in shops, canteens, schools. The fourth is about electronics, children’s toys, and clothes. The last section will focus on the politics of the 70’s and 80’s, which will show and explain the functioning of secret security, wiretapping of dissidents, and Czechoslovak socialist propaganda.

As refugee facilities in the Czech capital have become exhausted with no sign of the exodus from the war in Ukraine slowing down, authorities in the Czech Republic opened a tented camp in Prague on Saturday. The facility in the Czech capital’s Troja district can accommodate 150 people at present, and has been opened in an attempt to ease the crowding at the city’s main railway station. Aid organizations have for days bemoaned the undignified conditions in which refugees find themselves as they are forced to sleep in the corridors of the station for lack of anywhere else to go. Many members of Ukraine’s Roma population in particular are currently staying there, with photos of children forced to sleep on the floor making it into newspapers. Trail Center Letnany There is a new official single-trail in Letnany where there are four easy trails with some berms, small jumps, and wooden obstacles. The complete length of the trails is 5km. Točná The forests around the Točná Airport are known areas for mountain bikers. There are a lot of trails in the woods and you can find them in lots of difficulties from cross country trails to enduro trails.
