Prague Undergoing Transformation: Trams Set to Return to Upper Wenceslas Square

In a groundbreaking announcement on the social media platform X, Prague’s Deputy for Transport and former mayor Zdeněk Hřib shared exciting news: “Trams will soon make a comeback to the upper part of Wenceslas Square!” Eurovia CS, a subsidiary of the multinational VINCI group, will spearhead the project. According to Hřib, construction on Wenceslas Square is slated to start in spring 2024, with completion expected three years later. The DPP communications department head, Daniel Šabík, informed journalists that they evaluated six proposals from different companies for a project exceeding CZK 1 billion. This marks the return of trams to the upper part of Wenceslas Square, where tram services were operational until 1980. The decision to reintroduce trams was made by the previous city administration. Hřib’s post sparked numerous inquiries from users. November 11: Commemorate Veteran’s Day by Buying a Poppy

On 11 November, Czechia will honor the memory of those who fought for the nation on International Veterans Day, celebrated worldwide on the anniversary of WWI’s end. A traditional ceremony is held each year at the national memorial located on Vitkov Hill, attended by Czech politicians and military, paying respects to the fallen with a minute of silence. People will take part in the commemorations all over the country by purchasing poppies, which were known to be the first flowers that grew on the WWI battlefields after the war had come to a close. In Brno, they are planted in Moravské Náměstí square, and these poppies can, in fact, be bought in many locations throughout Prague and Czechia. The locations will be organized by the Prague NGO Post Bellum, founded by a group of Czech journalists and historians who set out to document the memories of witnesses of important historical phenomena/events of the 20th century and promote awareness to the general public. Prague Introduces New Designs of Metro Line Diagrams

Prague’s public transport system has undergone a striking transformation! Say goodbye to the old metro plans and say hello to the maps. Starting this Thursday, new navigation maps will replace the traditional ones on every metro line. What’s new? The maps boast fresh colors and a revamped layout, with Wenceslas Square positioned at the center horizontally. Additionally, they feature prominent city landmarks and green spaces. However, it’s important to note that this change is currently in the testing phase, as confirmed by Prague Integrated Transport (PID). The goal is to ensure clear visibility of all lines and easy placement above carriage doors, making them visible to all passengers. Hotter Than Ever: Prague Experiences Record-Setting October Temperatures

Prague is currently experiencing an unusually warm autumn. Following the warmest September in recorded history, October also set a new record. This information was reported on Wednesday by the weather station at Prague’s Clementinum, which has been maintaining statistics since 1775. According to its data, the average monthly temperature in October was +14.1°C, surpassing the previous record set in 1795 by 0.3°C. It is also 4.3°C higher than the long-term average for October (1775-2014) and 3.2°C above the recent climatic norm (1991-2020). The coldest October in Prague’s history was in 1905, with an average monthly temperature of +5.6°C, as depicted on the graph. The warmest day of October 2023 occurred on the 13th, with an average daily temperature of +19.8°C. In contrast, the coolest day was on the 17th, with an average daily temperature of +7.3°C. Prague’s historical record for the hottest October day dates back to October 3, 1929, with a temperature of +21.9°C. While the record for the coldest October day in the capital, set on October 30, 1776, with an average daily temperature of -3.1°C, remains unbroken, there is a possibility it might be surpassed in the future.

Rally in Support of Israel Held in the Centre of Prague

A rally supporting Israel took place in the center of Prague on Wednesday evening, November 1. The event, held at Old Town Square, drew several hundred participants; approximately 300 people attended, according to the iDNES portal. Japanese artists are set to bring their princess-themed creations to Prague as the Doll Prague exhibition opens its doors at Lucerna on November 3-5.  The 8th edition of this international showcase of professional art dolls, puppets, and collectible Teddy bears will feature artists from more than twenty countries. The exhibition’s theme, “The wisdom of myths and legends still speaks to us today,” adds a touch of mystique to the event. Mark Your Calendar: St. Martin’s Day Feast at Náplavka on November 11

If you visit the center of Prague or any Czech town on the 11th of November, you might see a man on a white horse leading a procession… These processions are in honor of St. Martin, patron saint of the poor, and the white horse represents winter and snow. Not only on this day but for most of November, look for restaurants serving goose and St. Martin’s wine (Husa a Svatomartinské vino) which is the traditional food for the feast day. The reason behind this tradition is that it is said a flock of geese betrayed St. Martin’s hiding place and we have been eating roast goose on this day ever since. One of the main celebrations will take place at Náplavka (Rašínovo nábřeží) on November 11. Is That a Hologram? Passengers Argue Over New LED Signs in the Metro

This innovation was not announced beforehand and was first noticed on the Line A. It looks like that synchronized LED panels have been installed in the tunnel. They switch on when the train travels at a speed of at least 40 km/h. If I had to select one area of Prague I love the most, it would have to be Prague – Royal Vineyards, Vinohrady in Czech, or “Královské Vinohrady”. As you might know from the recent article, Vinohrady was rated as one of the coolest areas in the world. Vinohrady has a unique and charming atmosphere and will always maintain its value because of its prestige, history, architecture, and limited areas for new development. In this article, I will cover the history of the villa district spreading from Bezručovy sady all the way down to the borders with Prague 3 and 10.
