The Czech gastronomic scene is going through a challenging period. The only way restaurants can stay up and running now is through a serving window or food delivery. However, according to some restaurants, delivery services do not offer the fairest conditions. Storyous – which focuses of developing technologies for the restaurant industry – wants to change this, by cooperating with renowned chef, TV personality and entrepreneur, Zdeněk Pohlreich, and taxi ordering app Liftago. Together, they launched OneMenu.cz, which, according to its founders, is “based on fairness towards customers, carriers, and restaurants”. According to statistics from Storyous, only about half of Czech restaurants are currently open, and sales in gastronomy fell by 49 per cent year-on-year in October. “OneMenu.cz has been operating since spring as an online service to order from the dispensing window. Thanks to growing demand from many restaurants, we are now also expanding the service with delivery options, and I am very pleased that Zdeněk Pohlreich and Liftago decided to further develop the project with us,” says Igor Třeslín, Head of Storyous. Rona was inspired by Pokémon, a Japanese anime television cartoon series that premiered in Japan on April 1, 1997. He worked on it for over four years. Dogs specially trained to detect Covid-19 will start sniffing passengers as part of a trial at Prague Airport.
The construction of a footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists, which will connect Holešovice and Karlín across the island of Štvanice, will begin next year. The footbridge is 285 meters long and the construction will be completed at the end of 2022. “Prague will soon have a new bridge and it will be… HolKa! We will build a new footbridge between Holešovice and Karlín with a ramp to Štvanice island. Today, during the city council, we approved the building regulations contracts,” said Prague Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr. “After the recent opening of the Troja footbridge, we succeeded in another important project. Pedestrians will have the opportunity to get from Karlín to the front gates of Holešovice Market in a few minutes and visit the Štvanice island, which is waiting for a complete transformation, as well. HolKa will connect cycle paths leading along the river on both banks,” added Scheinherr. Designed by Marek Blanek and Petr Teje architects, the bridge pushes building technology to the limit; the use of freeze-resistant and fiber-reinforced ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) helped reduce the structural shell thickness. In cooperation with the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR Prague), the city’s leadership and Prague City Tourism have prepared a new concept for inbound tourism in Prague. Its objective is to balance the economic benefits of tourism with the strategic interests of the city and its residents. The concept introduces a new, complex, and sustainable approach to tourism in Prague. It was unanimously approved by the city’s elected representatives in October. The new tourism concept reacts to specific long-term problems associated with the overly congested city center, which is barely able to cope with the negative impacts of excessive tourism and so-called touristification, which forces out the usual daily urban functionality for residents and replaces it with services that focus exclusively on tourism. The City of Prague bans the use of pyrotechnics in selected places on New Year’s Eve (December 31) and New Year’s celebrations on January 1st. Prague has banned the use of firecrackers, bangers, rockets, and other explosive material in parks, protected areas, around watercourses (islands, dams, or dikes), at the Prague Zoo, and nearby retirement homes for seniors. “Every year we treat hundreds of injured animals and now we want to prevent this,” said Petr Hlubuček, Deputy Mayor of Prague for the environment, infrastructure, technical equipment, and safety. The draft decree was approved today by Prague councilors. It will apply from 1 December. For the first time in many years, Prague City Hall will not welcome next year with fireworks. This time, however, due to the coronavirus, there will not be any alternative light performances. By doing this, the municipality will save about CZK 2 million in its crisis-laden budget. Another reason is that the city cannot predict the hygiene restrictions that may be imposed during the winter season. The previous administration also explored silent fireworks but found they are suited to much smaller shows such as garden parties.
