Here’s What the New Metro D in Prague Will Look Like

The Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR) presented in cooperation with the architects, some new visualization of the upcoming Metro D, specifically the stations between Pankrác and Depo Písnice. Line D will consist of nine stations and connect the city center with the southeast neighborhoods. It will start from the existing station of Náměstí Míru. This station will be an interconnection hub for passengers. The route will be also linked with Line B at Olbrachtova station. The project will be carried out by Metrostav, the contractor that is specialized on the construction of metro lines and includes the erection of a train depot in the Písnice area. According to Petr Witowski, Line D will be served by the driverless trains. According to City Hall, the first section of Metro D between Pankrác to Nové Dvory, should be put into operation by the end of 2027. The Metro D line has faced numerous delays. Construction was originally supposed to start in 2010. There was a petition in 2016 to change the approved designs for the stations between Pankrác to Písnice because the designs are already outdated, and do not reflect current trends in mass transit. Foreigners studying or doing business who have decided to plan their future in the capital of the Czech Republic now have an exceptional opportunity to make their adaptation to the new city much easier. Following the example of other European capital cities, the Expat Center will be available to them in Prague as well. The representatives of the Prague City municipality presented the project on Wednesday 15 January 2020 at the grand opening. Valuable information, contacts, educational events, consultations and assistance to counter the diverse situations and problems that life in a new country brings – all this can be found in the Expat Center of Prague. The project also offers the opportunity to meet and exchange experiences with other foreigners who are already living in Prague. Experience a Traditional Czech Pig-Slaughter Feast at Vinohradský Parlament

Real pork lovers are worth to visit the Czech traditional meat celebration Vinohradská zabíjačka. January 23, the Vinohradský Parlament Restaurant will host annual pork festival, together with famous butcher Honza Bartoň. Late January and early February are the meatiest months in the Czech Republic. According to the medieval tradition, at this period, Czech and Moravian farmers slaughter the adult piglets and prepare various meat dishes. Mass pig slaughter is a cultural festival in many Slavic countries. In the Czech Republic, it calls Zabijačka. Why in the winter season? Historically, Zabijačka was arranged 1-2 weeks before Christmas or after the New Year. The main rule is to finish ere the start of the 40 days Fast (Great Lent). The Old Town Hall, with its medieval tower and Astronomical clock, has been dominant in the Old Town Square for centuries. Hundreds of people are standing below the Astronomical clock every hour to watch the moving marionettes. However, I would take you inside the hall that is hiding several gems to discover.   The Astronomical Clock All year round from 9 am until 9 pm, you can watch every hour a process of moving marionettes on the top of the Astronomical clock. This technical wonder of the Middle Age recently celebrated 600 years of its operation. The Clock was first installed in 1410, making it the oldest clock that is still operating. The marionettes that are appearing every hour in small windows are the Apostles. Beside the two small windows, pay attention to small figures below the windows. There is also skeleton pulling on the string, a Turk shaking its head, a figure of Vanity looking itself in the mirror, and a figure of Miserliness shaking a money bag. Prague to Start Renovation of Historic Old Town Market

Prague’s Old Town Market (Staroměstská tržnice) is one of the city’s most historic indoor marketplaces, currently housing a supermarket and shoe repair shop it gives a rather underwhelming impression. “We calculated that repairs should cost CZK 300 million, but it is already clear that the actual price will be about 100 million higher,” said Prague Councillor Jan Chabr. The renovation of Prague’s Old Town Market would see the premises return to its original function as a farmers’ market. Some 50 stalls on the lower would sell fresh produce and seasonal goods and could be rented on either a short or long-term basis. While farmers’ markets have become an increasingly popular destination throughout Prague, the city center lacks its own version. Who specifically will reconstruct and run the location is set to be decided in a public tender that the city will announce later this year. Electric Scooters to be Banned From Pedestrian Areas in Prague

The Town Hall of Prague 1 has revealed it is effectively banning the use of rental scooters from the city center. New regulations will stipulate that electric scooters can only be used in bike lanes and on the roads with other vehicles. They can currently be used on pavements and pedestrian areas as long as they keep to 10km/hr. Depending on their speed and power, they can be viewed as equivalent to bicycles or motor vehicles. Many pedestrians find the machines irritating or dangerous, and local authorities in Prague 2 District have begun criminal proceedings against operating company Lime for creating a public menace. According to the new law, the ban will not affect bicycles, classic e-bikes or non-motorized scooters. “I discussed the proposal with Adam Scheinherr, Prague’s Deputy Mayor for Transportation, and it was finally unanimously approved by the Transport Commission,” said Prague 1 Councilor for Transport David Skála (Praha 1 sobě).
