Bolt on Wednesday launched its own electric scooter model and said it aims to launch the scooter service in more than 45 cities this summer. “Beating the traffic is a big issue and a lot of trips are much more efficiently covered with an electric scooter rather than a car with a driver,” says Markus Villig, CEO and co-founder of Bolt. Bolt said its model’s design and engineering are focused around modularity, which makes it easily repairable and lowers the cost of maintenance for the ride-sharing service. The new scooter weighs 17kg, which makes it the lightest model used in scooter sharing. This reduced weight is achieved through the scooter being made of 90% aluminium. The scooter features inflatable tires that help ensure better grip and smoother, safer rides. It can go for more than 40km on a single charge. Its maximum speed is 25km/h. In Prague, May 6 was a day of crisis. The Germans retook the main radio station, but Czech partisans continued broadcasting from another base. Immunity to the novel coronavirus is building up very slowly in the Czech Republic, with likely no more than 4-5% of the population covered, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday, after mass testing for antibodies that started last month. Overall, it found 107 positive cases after testing 26,549, making it one of the largest studies in Europe. The study result is slightly higher than a European average of 0.2-3%, shown in 16 studies underway or completed, the ministry said. “The positivity of antibodies ranges from zero to three percent, depending on the location,” said Ladislav Dušek, director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS). The study estimated the number of people infected by the virus but not showing symptoms could range from 27-38%. According to Vojtěch, it is necessary to focus on local outbreaks, such as Cheb or Prague in recent days. “We no longer have a general problem, but we have to solve it locally,” he added. Today afternoon, May 5th, doctors will release the Prague patient who was the first in the Czech Republic to be treated with the experimental drug Remdesivir. The man, a Prague taxi driver, was admitted to the General University Hospital on March 10 in critical condition and has been on ventilation for many days. Remdesivir is an antiviral, intravenous medicine made by Gilead Sciences that’s been around for years as an experimental compound, but was never approved by the Food and Drug Administration — or any other country’s drug approval agency. Remdesivir was one of the drugs being studied in 2014 as a potential Ebola treatment but was sidelined in favor of other treatments and vaccines. The Czech Republic had 7,819 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection by Tuesday morning, with 38 new infections on Monday. So far 3,807 people have recovered and 252 people have died.
A leaked email from Uber Eats vice president Pierre-Dmitri Gore-Coty revealed the plans, which were later confirmed by an Uber Eats spokesperson Uber said on Monday it was closing down its Uber Eats operations in eight markets, including the Czech Republic, because “they did not offer a clear route to becoming the number one or number two online food delivery operator”, its stated aim for its Eats business. “We have made the decision to discontinue Uber Eats in Czech Republic, Egypt, Honduras, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, and Uruguay, and to wind down the Eats app and transition operations to Careem in UAE,” a Uber spokesman said. The German low-cost airline headquartered in Düsseldorf and a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group Eurowings is the first air carrier to resume partially regular operations after a break of more than six weeks. Airbus A319 took off from Düsseldorf, Germany yesterday at 18:25, and landed in Prague on Sunday, May 3 at 19:17. At the moment, Eurowings schedules two flights a week, except on Sundays on Thursdays. From June 1, the carrier expects two flights per day. Another carrier is returning to Prague tomorrow: KLM’s Embraer E-175 will arrive in the morning and fly to Amsterdam every day. Other carriers, on the other hand, continue to postpone the start of flights from Prague. British Airways, which originally planned to resume flights on May 1, will start selling tickets on June 1 at the earliest. On Sunday morning – shortly after 7 am – the last plane with medical supplies, including masks and respirators, has arrived in the Czech capital. Since the flights began on March 20, fifty planeloads have carried around 2,000 tons of masks, respirators, and other material. All the supplies are intended for use by healthcare workers, emergency services, hospitals, and nursing homes. Firefighters and police officers were in charge of unloading and distributing approximately 13,000 cubic meters of medical devices. From Thursday, April 30, passengers in the Prague metro can use the high-speed LTE mobile network between Muzeum and Můstek stations on line A, reports Mobilenet.cz. About 20 stations are already covered with LTE services. At the beginning of April, a consortium of operators launched covered the section between Křižíkova and Invalidovna on line B. Construction works and cable installation in Prague Metro were performed in phases and during night hours when the metro is closed to the public (1:00 to 3:00 a.m.). The total distance between the four new stations where the cable will be installed in both directions is 11.6 km. By the end of summer, the consortium wants to complete the coverage of metro sections in the city center. The LTE network should be extended to Staroměstská – Dejvická, Florenc – Českomoravská and Smíchovské nádraží – Anděl.
