Prague Gets Its First Elite Horse Polo Tournament This Summer
Prague Morning
This August, Prague enters the world of competitive horse polo.
The Royal Golf & Polo Cup — a tournament blending polo and golf — will take place on August 8 at the Prague City Golf complex in Zbraslav, marking the event’s first edition in the Czech capital.
The tournament has been running since 2018, when it launched in Mariánské Lázně with no prior infrastructure or fanbase behind it. Its move to Prague signals a deliberate shift in ambition.
“We had a clear goal from day one — to build a family event that would grow year after year,” said Simona Joklová, a competitive polo player and co-founder of the tournament.
“Moving from Mariánské Lázně to Prague is the natural next step toward making this a truly European fixture.” International field, defending champion included
Four teams will compete this year, with players confirmed from Argentina, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, and Belgium.

Among them is Brad Rainford-Blackett, a British professional polo player and coach with extensive international tournament experience. He has competed in the Royal Golf & Polo Cup twice and arrives in Prague as the reigning champion.
Saturday’s final matches will be open to the public, with a full supporting program planned for spectators of all ages.
A format built for the crowd
The organizers have adapted the tournament format to suit both the venue and the audience.
Teams field three players instead of the standard four, and the pitch dimensions have been adjusted accordingly. Matches take place in a grass arena measuring 150 by 85 meters, enclosed by high barriers that bring spectators close to the action.
Players also use a leather ball rather than the hard plastic version standard in professional polo — a choice that reduces risk for the horses and adds a different quality to play.
