Each one has developed greatly in terms of both elite and mass participation and the Mattoni Usti nad Labem event has been awarded the distinction of an IAAF Silver Label Road Race. The course leads alongside the river Elbe opening a view to impressive rock formations, Strekov castle and then crossing the area of a chemical factory which is a perfect example of industrial architecture of the First Republic. In 2013, it was awarded IAAF Silver Label Road Race status. During this edition, masks will be mandatory to wear during the pick-up of start numbers, in the technical area and in the start and finish corridor. There will not be any showers or taping zone in the technical area (lockers and depository will remain, but the number of people will be limited). Czech President Milos Zeman has been discharged from hospital on Saturday, where he underwent hand surgery after an injury on Wednesday night. Zeman broke his right arm on Tuesday night after falling. “In the evening, the president watched television news and after the end, he did not use the support in the form of a stick nor the help of security, he tripped and broke his right arm,” said Zeman’s spokesman, Jiří Ovčáček. At the beginning of September, the Castle planned a presidential visit to South Moravian Region as Zeman was to start the school year at an event at a secondary school in Rajhrad. “We will solve that next week,” said Ovčáček, however, he is rather skeptical about making a three-day visit to the region. “It’s not even a general state of health, but of course if you have a broken arm and it is fixed, it causes discomfort,” the spokesman said, adding that convalescence is now a priority. Zeman has been President of the Czech Republic since 2013. His health has been a frequent topic of media speculation, especially in the run-up to his reelection as president in 2018. Zeman, 75, suffers from a nerve condition in his...
In a follow-up report on the Czech Republic, the Council of Europe’s anti-money laundering body MONEYVAL concludes that the country has improved measures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, but still needs to make progress in certain areas. Since the adoption of its mutual evaluation report in December 2018, the Czech Republic is reporting to MONEYVAL on an expedited timetable due to the high number of deficiencies identified in several key areas. The follow-up carried out by MONEYVAL has examined a range of legislative, regulatory, and institutional measures implemented by the Czech Republic to address these deficiencies. MONEYVAL notes progress and assigns the Czech Republic higher international compliance ratings in three key areas: the improvement of mechanisms for national cooperation and coordination to tackle money laundering and terrorism financing (ML/TF); the strengthening of countermeasures against countries and jurisdictions which represent a high ML/TF risk; and the removing of regulatory gaps for correspondent banking relationships, which will ensure greater transparency for bank-to-bank transactions. At the same time, the Czech Republic had not made sufficient efforts to upgrade its ratings in two areas: financial sanctions related to terrorism, and mechanisms to track the movement of cash across borders. The follow-up report also finds that the Czech Republic has...
Travelers arriving from Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Jamaica will have to quarantine from 4 am on Saturday, the UK government has announced. The new restrictions are coming into force in a bid to stem the spread of coronavirus. The transport secretary, Grant Shapps, confirmed the move in a series of tweets on Thursday, warning that quarantining on arrival from countries not on the corridor list is a legal requirement and that rule-breakers risk being fined and receiving a criminal record. Data shows we need to remove the Czech Republic, Jamaica and Switzerland from our list of #Coronavirus Travel Corridors to keep infection rates DOWN. If you arrive in the UK after 0400 Saturday from these destinations, you will need to self-isolate for 14 days. — Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP (@grantshapps) August 27, 2020 The UK travel corridor list is updated using data from the Joint Biosecurity Centre, an organization set up by the government to help make policy decisions in the fight against coronavirus. The Czech Republic has seen a 25% increase in cases in the last week and Jamaica’s infections have shot up from 4.3 per 100,000 people to 20.8 in the past seven days, according to data...
The Czech government has approved the creation of a fund to help Belarusians affected by the restrictions of President Alexander Lukashenko’s regime. The Czech Republic will set aside CZK 10 million korunas for this purpose from this year’s budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The money will be used to help persecuted people, treat the injured, and support independent media. “The priorities at the moment are, in particular, the support of independent media. There is a need to ensure that citizens in Belarus have access to independent information. It is generally a support for civil society,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tomáš Petříček. “In practical specific areas, it is legal assistance to people who have lost their jobs because they have reported how elections have been manipulated, legal aid for journalists exposed to persecution, psychotherapeutic assistance to people who were arrested and, according to all testimonies, were subjected to torture by the local authorities, “said Petříček about the use of the money before a government meeting on the topic. The Czech Republic also intends to provide medical care for Belarusians in Czech hospitals. “The Ministry of the Interior will coordinate the selection of persons, cover the costs of admission...
Switzerland, Greece, Iceland and the Czech Republic could be the next four countries on the UK Government’s quarantine list. Holidaymakers traveling to the four European countries could be forced to self-isolate for 14 days upon landing back in Britain. Greece could follow Spain, France, and Croatia in being the fourth popular European destination banned from quarantine-free travel. And Switzerland could follow it, with a spike in Covid-19 cases concerning Government officials. Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has already hinted countries will be added to the quarantine list if cases rise. The Transport Secretary warned that a range of factors are taken into account when the Joint Biosecurity Centre and ministers make their assessments. Croatia, Austria, and Trinidad and Tobago were stripped from the ‘safe’ list of countries, following a spike in cases, last week. The number of new cases in Switzerland has seen its rate of infection rose to 21.1 new cases per 100,000 over the last seven days, up from 18 for the previous week. The Czech Republic’s rate of infection has surged to 18.6 from 16, while in Iceland, the rate of infection has jumped to 16.5 from 14.6, and in Greece, the cumulative rate jumped to 14.9 from 13.7....
The CoroVent pulmonary ventilator, which has been developed by a team of experts headed by Prof. Karel Roubík, from the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Czech Technical University in Prague, has received certification from the FDA (the United States Food and Drug Administration). The United States government agency FDA has confirmed that the CoroVent pulmonary ventilator has met all the criteria for safety and for its declared purpose. It has therefore been approved for emergency use in healthcare facilities for treating patients with Covid-19 under conditions set out in the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). With this certification, CoroVent can be supplied anywhere in the world where the certification is recognized, i.e. outside the borders of the European Union. “Right from the beginning of the design of the CoroVent ventilator, we of course took into account the need to get this certification. We, therefore, concentrated not only on the functionality of the ventilator, its utility properties and its safety for patients but also on complying with the standards and meeting the requirements for ventilation and healthcare technology in general, including carrying out risk assessments, maintaining detailed technical documentation, keeping records of details of tests and measurements, etc,” Professor Karel Roubík...
