It’s that time of year again, the days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, restaurants are dusting off their terraces, and baseball is returning to Prague. You heard right, this Saturday and Sunday (March 31– April 1) will be the home opener for two of three Prague teams that play in the Czech Baseball League. Kotlářka will host their crosstown rivals, Prague Eagles, while the Tempo Titans will play last years newly promoted, Třebíč Nuclears. Famed Czech model/actress Martina Hekerová is even scheduled to be singing the national anthem for the Kotlářka/Eagles game at Stadium Markéta. It is sure to be a fun time had for all. Who would be the best Czech barista of the year? That was the question that hundreds of visitors attending the Czech Barista Championship 2018 will ask themselves. The event takes place at Pragovka, art centre in Vysočany that holds exhibitions, concerts, and other cultural events. The two-day final round of 12 competitors will take place on the weekend of 7th and 8th April. Visitors can taste espresso-based drinks and hand-brewed coffee from many local and international roasters. Coffee lectures and discussions will fill the time slots between the competition presentations. One of the greatest highlights is the chance to taste the competition coffees directly from the baristas after their routines. Czech Barista Champion 2017 title was earned by Jan Škeřík, the head-barista at Double B Prague. Last year, competitors were asked to prepare four espresso, four milk-based, and four custom coffee drinks under the scrutiny of an international jury in just a quarter of an hour.
