Prague’s Masaryk Station is moving into a critical stage of its long-term reconstruction, with major work now shifting to the central part of the rail hub. The next phase will focus on rebuilding existing tracks and platforms, marking a step change in the scale of construction. To allow work to proceed faster, train services from Kladno and Kralupy nad Vltavou will be redirected. From June until the end of the year, these lines will terminate at the newly built station in Bubny. Connections from Libeň and Vysočany will continue to operate without restrictions. Until now, construction has largely focused on building new platforms designed to serve future connections to Václav Havel Airport and the Kladno region. In the coming days, tracks and platforms near Hybernská Street will be removed to make space for archaeological research, where remains of Prague’s historic fortifications are expected to be examined. The temporary closure of routes linked to the Negrelli Viaduct is intended to speed up the overall timeline. Officials expect the full reconstruction of one of the city’s key railway stations to be completed by the end of next year. Once finished, Masaryk Station will offer increased capacity and modern facilities. Plans include newly...
A new private clinic in Prague is set to introduce a different approach to healthcare, focusing on prevention and long-term health management rather than treating illness after it appears. HX Clinic will open on May 11, 2026, positioning itself as the first facility in the Czech Republic built around the concept of Medicine 3.0. The model reflects a broader shift in healthcare thinking. Instead of reacting to disease, Medicine 3.0 aims to predict risks, detect early changes, and intervene before conditions develop. The approach treats health as something that evolves over time and can be actively managed using data and targeted strategies. At the core of the clinic’s operations is its proprietary HX Continuum methodology. This system brings together data from multiple medical disciplines to map out an individual’s health trajectory. Doctors and specialists assess six key areas, including cardiovascular health, metabolism, and cognitive function, then use these insights to build a long-term plan tailored to each client. The clinic’s protocols are overseen by an independent scientific council made up of Czech and international experts in medicine and research. The group is responsible for setting clinical standards and updating them as new scientific findings emerge. HX Clinic combines traditional medical...
Prague is set to mark Mother’s Day with a new kind of event this weekend, as the first-ever Mother’s Day Race takes place in Stromovka on Sunday, May 10. The 4-kilometre run is open to all women, including mothers with strollers, offering a more relaxed and inclusive approach to running. Rather than focusing on performance, the event aims to bring together movement, community, and a shared experience. The race begins at 10:00 a.m. near the Industrial Palace at the Exhibition Grounds, with around 150 participants expected. Organisers say the goal is to create a welcoming space for women at different stages of life—from pregnancy and early motherhood to those simply looking to spend the day actively. The initiative comes from SheMoves, founded by Chantelle Tuma and Barbara Blahák Adamska, in collaboration with the MotherGood community. Both groups focus on physical and mental well-being, encouraging women to stay active and connected. “This race felt like a natural way to bring movement and motherhood together in a simple and meaningful way,” said Tuma. The event also includes a charity element, with part of the entry fee going to WOMEN FOR WOMEN, a Czech organisation supporting single mothers and families in difficult situations....
During excavation work on Prague’s Metro Line D, a routine pile of extracted rock has led to a scientific discovery that is reshaping understanding of early marine life. A fossil collected at the site has been identified as a previously unknown species of arthropod dating back roughly 448 million years. The specimen was found by fossil collector Radek Labuťa among debris removed from the construction site. Though small—measuring just about two centimeters—it has proven to be of major scientific value. Researchers later confirmed it represents a new species closely related to trilobites, organisms that once dominated ancient seas. The species has been named Soomaspis labutai, in recognition of its discoverer. Unlike trilobites, however, this creature lacked a hard shell. Instead, it had a softer body covering marked by small pits, along with a distinct oval-shaped tail. Its appearance has been described as resembling a hybrid between a spider and a trilobite. According to Lukáš Laibl of the Geological Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the find offers new insight into a critical period in Earth’s history. The organism lived shortly before a major glaciation event at the end of the Ordovician period, which triggered one of the first mass...

Prague’s busiest metro line could soon see a major improvement during peak hours, with transport officials preparing plans to increase the frequency of trains on Line B. The proposed changes aim to ease chronic overcrowding that has long defined the morning commute for thousands of passengers. According to the city’s Transport Service Plan for 2026–2030, trains on Line B may run every two minutes during the morning rush hour, a reduction from the current interval of roughly 140 seconds. Line B, which stretches across the city from the southwest to the northeast, consistently handles the highest passenger volumes in Prague’s metro network. Transport planners believe shorter intervals would directly reduce pressure on platforms and inside carriages, improving boarding times and overall passenger flow. Even small reductions in waiting times can have a noticeable impact when applied across the entire network. However, the proposal depends on technical upgrades. Running trains more frequently requires modernized safety and signaling systems, both onboard and along the tracks. Without these improvements, tighter intervals cannot be introduced safely. To support the increased service, some trains currently operating on Line A could be reassigned to Line B. Looking further ahead, officials are considering an additional boost once...
A large-scale exhibition built entirely from LEGO bricks has opened in Prague, bringing together hundreds of models that push the limits of size, detail and imagination. Spread across 1,500 square meters at Westfield Černý Most, the show features more than 100 installations made from nearly 15 million bricks. Organizers describe the concept as an “invasion of giants,” a reference both to the physical scale of the exhibits and to the cultural figures they depict. Some models stretch up to 60 meters in length, while the largest individual build required around 600,000 pieces. Find all the info and tickets here. Others focus on well-known characters from film, sport and popular culture. Among the central attractions is a full-scale reconstruction inspired by the Ferrari F40. Standing over four meters tall, the model replicates the iconic car using hundreds of thousands of LEGO elements, with close attention to proportion and detail. Nearby, a three-meter-high spacecraft modeled on a TIE Fighter from the Star Wars universe dominates another section of the hall. One of the most striking installations is a long segment of the Great Wall of China, recreated at a scale of 1:150 and extending up to 60 meters. It is presented as...
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš in Yerevan on Sunday, marking their first in-person talks since Babiš took office in December. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 8th European Political Community (EPC) Summit, bringing together European leaders at a key moment for the continent’s political coordination. Zelenskyy thanked the Czech people for what he described as “tremendous and heartfelt support” for Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Both leaders discussed bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Czech Republic, with Zelenskyy noting potential opportunities to deepen cooperation in several areas. A significant part of the talks focused on Ukraine’s path toward European Union membership and the next steps in its ongoing accession process. EU integration remains one of Kyiv’s strategic priorities, and Czechia has been among the countries consistently supporting Ukraine’s European aspirations. The meeting comes just one day before the EPC Summit, scheduled for today, May 4, under the theme “Building the Future: Unity and Stability in Europe.” The summit will gather nearly fifty heads of state and government, along with leaders of international organizations, to discuss Europe’s shared challenges and long-term priorities. It will be co-chaired by Armenian Prime Minister...
A child died on May 2 during a tractor rally in the village of Libeř in Central Bohemia, near Prague. Emergency services, including a helicopter, were dispatched to the scene, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident. According to emergency responders, multiple units were called shortly after 2 p.m. A medical team, a rescue crew and an air ambulance intervened. “We treated a tragic incident involving a child. Despite prolonged resuscitation, the injuries were incompatible with life and the doctor had to confirm death at the scene,” said Monika Nováková, spokesperson for the Central Bohemian Emergency Medical Service. Police confirmed that criminal investigators are handling the case. “We are dealing with the incident on suspicion of manslaughter,” said police spokesperson Michaela Richterová. The accident took place during a local tractor festival, an annual event in Libeř that features historic tractors, cars, motorcycles and other machinery and is typically attended by families with children. Information reported by the news agency Aktu.cz states that a minor fell from the cabin of a moving tractor and ended up under the rear wheel. The child was then run over by a flatbed truck following behind. Authorities have not...
This article has been written by Finaram.cz, a Czech platform specializing in mortgages, home financing, and real estate advice. For many expats living in Prague, buying a flat still feels like something just out of reach. Rent is one thing, but ownership often raises a much more direct question: how much do you actually need to earn to afford a property in the city today? The answer depends on several factors, but with current prices and mortgage conditions in 2026, it is possible to outline realistic figures. What Property Costs in Prague Today Based on current listings on Sreality.cz, average asking prices in early 2026 look roughly like this: A typical 1+kk apartment (around 32 m²) is priced at about CZK 182,000 per m², which puts the total around CZK 5.8 million. A 2+kk apartment (around 55 m²) averages CZK 161,000 per m², or roughly CZK 8.9 million in total. A 3+kk apartment (around 75 m²) sits at approximately CZK 149,000 per m², which means around CZK 11.2 million. Actual sale prices can vary depending on location, condition, and demand, but these figures reflect the current market level in Prague quite closely. How Banks Assess Your Income When applying...
Four towns in the Czech Republic have been included in a new ranking of the most beautiful small towns in Central Europe. The list, compiled by the travel platform My Wanderlust, places Kutná Hora in third position, making it the highest-ranked Czech entry. The town, once a major center of silver mining in medieval Europe, still carries traces of its past in its preserved streets and historic buildings. The ranking also points to the Sedlec Ossuary beneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints, known for its interior decorated with human bones, which continues to draw international attention. Another Czech town, Český Krumlov, appears in sixth place. Set along a bend of the Vltava River, it is often visited for its compact historic center and castle complex. The ranking presents it as a suitable destination for short stays, particularly for visitors looking for a quieter setting with notable architecture. Further down the list, Třeboň takes the 20th spot. The South Bohemian town is known for its network of ponds and its orderly square, offering a slower pace that contrasts with larger urban centers. Mikulov, located in South Moravia near the Austrian border, ranks 29th, noted for its position among vineyards and...
