RunCzech finally returned to Prague after three years. Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon was attended by around 9000 runners, among them also elite world athletes. Four Kenyans ran to the finish line in under one hour. The Prague Half Marathon was dominated by Keneth Kiprop Renju in a time of 59:28. Philemon Kiplimo Kimaiyo finished second and Mathew Kipkorir Kimeli was third. The fastest woman of this year’s edition was Nesphine Jepleting with a time of 1:06:57. The best Czech runner was Jiří Homoláč, who managed the half marathon in 1:04:36, the fastest Czech was Hana Homolková (1:20:31). “I really liked the race, I enjoyed it a lot. The Czech Association of Breweries and Malthouses is trying to get Czech beer culture added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, the head of the association František Šámal announced on Friday. The Czech-Moravian Association of Mini-Brewers has also joined the initiative. Thus far, the association has proposed listing Czech beer culture on the regional level. The next step will be to secure a listing on the national level. “I have been active in the brewing industry for a relatively long time and I believe that our beer culture will eventually be included on the UNESCO list. However, there is still a long way to go. If all goes well, the entry at a national level could take place at the turn of next year and at the global level in 2026,” said Šámal. Prague has been named the city in the world with the most pubs per person. The results of research, which would come as rather unsurprising for most Praguers, revealed that the Czech capital ranks number one on the list with 47.87 pubs per 100,000 people. The study by money.co.uk analysed the number of bars and clubs listed on Tripadvisor for each global city, with reference to the city’s population, to determine the total number of bars and clubs per 100,000 people. The rest of the top ten on the list is made up of Orlando (40.06), Edinburgh (34.29), San Francisco (27.03), Amsterdam (22.56), Krakow (21.83), Dublin (19.98), Miami (18.41), and Tallinn (16.82). Moreover, Prague claimed the 1st spot on the list of the highest average beer consumption annually per capita, followed by Warsaw and Krakow with 127 litres per person and German cities Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin with 107 litres per person. The Czech Republic produces the best new cars on sale in the UK, according to a detailed analysis conducted by The Car Expert. The analysis, conducted by the UK’s most comprehensive automotive consumer advice site, The Car Expert, ranked countries from best to worst based on the cars and car brands that were originally created there. The new study utilizes The Car Expert’s unique, data-driven Expert Ranking Index and takes into account all cars currently available in the UK. The Expert Rating Index uses algorithms to accurately consolidate car reviews from 30 of the UK’s top automotive websites into a simple, easy to understand percentage score. The Czech Republic, which scored an impressive 76% average in the data-driven rankings – thanks to the high scoring all-rounder Škoda – was followed by Sweden in second place (74%). Traditionally seen by many as among the best car-producing countries globally, automotive giant Germany came in third place. Despite its high-ranking, premium brands such as Porsche (82%), BMW (73%) and Audi (73%), Germany was impacted by a number of lower-performing models. The Czech foreign ministry appealed to Russian diplomats on Friday to resign over their country’s invasion of Ukraine to avoid becoming accomplices in the “apocalyptic destruction” of a sovereign country. “Colleagues, we implore those of you who have a conscience and who maintain the capacity to recognize evil: take yourself out of this circle of accomplices,” the European Union-member country’s foreign ministry said. There was no immediate reply from the Russian embassy in Prague to a request for comment. After several days of spring-like conditions, winter appears to be on its way back to the Czech Republic. A depression over central Europe has introduced a cold front and a significant drop in temperature, explaining the cooler conditions over the past few days. The Czech Republic should expect possible complications due to frost and snow on Friday, and over the weekend, meteorologists from the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) warned on Thursday. The frost may also damage flowering fruit trees. The ice warning applies to the whole of the Czech Republic and is valid from Friday evening until Sunday morning. A frost warning is in force for almost the entire territory of the Czech Republic during the growing season. “Frost is expected, which may damage flowering apricots, peach trees, and plum trees in the lowlands,” the ČHMÚ wrote. The Czech Republic’s central bank has again raised its key interest rate in an effort to tackle soaring inflation. Thursday’s hike of half a point to 5% was the seventh straight increase since June, and had been expected by analysts The bank, which considers high consumer prices a major threat, also had indicated it would raise the rate. Czech theologian Tomáš Halík and former diplomat and head of the Václav Havel Library Michael Žantovský have proposed that this year’s Nobel Peace Prize be awarded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Czech government has approved a package of three laws that focus on the fastest and smoothest possible registration of refugees, their integration into the work process, the provision of insurance and the admission of children to schools. We have prepared a quick overview in English and Ukrainian, covering the main areas of the new law passed in response to the Russian-Ukrainian war conflict. Visa and health insurance: Ukrainians who register in the Czech Republic can receive a special visa for one year and their health insurance will be covered by the state. Free access to the labour market: Ukrainian citizens who have obtained a special visa after February 24 can work in the Czech Republic without a work permit and are entitled to unemployment benefits. Financial support: Humanitarian aid of CZK 5,000 is available for holders of special visas.
