Effective the end of May 2021, AnadoluJet air carrier, a trademark of Turkish Airlines, plans to launch a new service between Prague and the popular holiday resort of Antalya. The route represents another connection to Turkey, available to passengers from Václav Havel Airport Prague throughout the 2021 summer season, provided they comply with all currently implemented conditions for travel. Direct flights, operated by Boeing 737-800 up to three times a week on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, are to be available from 27 May 2021. Tickets will be offered for sale via the www.anadolujet.com and www.turkishairlines.com websites. Passengers are currently able to use direct air connections to approximately 35 destinations in 21 countries worldwide, including charter flights. Beginning in April, Prague Public Transport will begin conducting Covid sampling on public transportation, taking swabs of contact surfaces rather than passengers. In a partnership with the Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Physics, DPP will attempt to collect at least 500 samples on trams, buses, and trains running throughout the city. The program is said to be inspired by findings from other major metropolitan cities like London, where researchers found no evidence of the virus on public transportation. Scientist will use biosensors and air extraction mechanisms to detect the presence of the Coronavirus. Within the trains they will be taking swabs of seats, poles, buttons, and handles. At metro stations, things like staircases, handrails, and benches will be sampled as well. Airborne samples will also be taken while passengers are onboard the buses, trams and trains. The most popular alcoholic beverage in the Czech Republic is wine, beer comes in second place. According to a study by Focus agency for the wine-growers’ association Vinařský fond, 73 percent of Czech adults consume wine, compared to 65% who indulge in beer. The survey was conducted in August and September last year with more than 1,200 respondents over the age of eighteen. With regard to overall volume, ie in terms of the amount consumed, however, beer is still in the first place. “The survey showed that wine consumers tend to be patriotic. Almost three-fifths prefer Moravian and Czech wines mainly because of the taste and in part because they wish to support domestic production,” said Jaroslav Machovec, director of Vinařský fond. Most Czechs who drink wine prefer the whites (54%) – particularly semi-dry ones – by far more popular than the red (15%) or rosé (6%) varieties. An application that enables people who are either vaccinated or have a negative COVID-19 test to visit restaurants, gyms, barbershops and other facilities is currently under development. A brainchild of the Chamber of Commerce, the concept will be discussed by Chamber and government with the possibility of running the app on the state level. The idea is simple: install the app on your phone and log in to your account to get access to confirmation of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test. After that, a map will be shown, indicating the nearest “safe establishments” – businesses that adhere to sanitary measures. When entering the facility, an employee will scan a QR-code from the app to check whether you are vaccinated or have a confirmation of a negative test. You can then proceed to enjoy services of the establishment. The 26th Volkswagen Prague Marathon moved from its traditional spring date to October 10. Throughout the pandemic, and against all odds, RunCzech has found dozens of creative ways to stage safe, small running events, along with other ways of keeping the running community engaged in their beloved sport. That has required near-constant meetings among RunCzech team members and authorities in local and national government. But finding an opportunity to stage its signature event—the internationally acclaimed Volkswagen Prague Marathon—has eluded them. Until now. Blanket security checks at Prague Castle are ending from Friday, a spokesperson for President Miloš Zeman said on Tuesday. For many years Prague Castle was open for free to everyone. Having several entrances, it was very easy to get inside without waiting. Since summer 2016, Czech president Miloš Zeman decided to put security checks in place. Politicians and friends in the Czech Republic have paid tribute to Petr Kellner, the country’s richest man, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Alaska. He was 56. Kellner was one of five people, including the pilot, who died in the accident on Saturday. Artist Kurt Gebauer has installed a new sculpture at Victory Square in Prague 6 dubbed the ‘Early Capitalism Caterpillar’. The art installation is 11 meters tall. The sculpture was conceptualized by Gebauer in 1997 but had no financial backup for its installation. During the communist era, a statue of Lenin stood in place of where the sculpture is now. That statue has since been torn down after the revolution. “That was supposed to be the joke that the Caterpillar of early capitalism would be where Lenin stood. Even then, it was supposed to provoke a discussion about the state of society. What will this capitalism become? Everything will be eaten or a beautiful butterfly will hatch…,” Gebauer commented. The sculpture had been installed in numerous places around Prague.
