This is something nightmares are made of. A man got a big fright when he opened up his hotel room bathroom last night in Prague’s Žižkov district to find a live snake inside. As Lidovky.cz reports, the guest immediately reported the unusual find to the receptionist, who called the police. Snake catchers were called to the hotel to remove the reptile from the bathroom. “The snake was safely removed and relocated, and the customer handled the situation like an absolute champ, having a sense of humor about it the entire time,” theyf said. The snake turned out to be non-poisonous. The royal python was taken to a shelter for abandoned animals in Dolní Měcholupy. According to the snake catcher “if you find a snake in similar circumstances, the best thing to do is not to panic; being bitten is extremely rare and they are only dangerous if you interact with them.” The hotel is investigating where the snake came from.
Minister of Health Jan Blatný (ANO) announced on Sunday during an interview with CNN Prima News that during Christmas time the Czech government could apply the PES (Protiepidemický Systém) level 3. PES assesses the epidemiological risk, taking into account the number of tests carried in relation to the number of positive tests returned, the R0 number, the number of infected per 100,000 people over the last 14 days, and the number of the elderly infected over the last 14 days. The level of measures corresponds to the risk score, which has now dropped from 70 points to 62. At level number three, the restaurants will have to be closed from 22:00 to 06:00 and a maximum of four guests will be allowed to sit at one table. A car took a wrong turn at the end of Lublaňská Street in Prague 2 and became stuck on a set of stairs. It happened this morning, November 22, Pražský patriot reports. The man was driving in the opposite direction on the Nuselský Bridge. He turned down to Folimanka Park and went down the stairs. Czech car production rose 2.8% year-on-year in October, the first monthly increase since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, although the second wave of infections poses new risks for the industry. Czech President Miloš Zeman said Thursday that President Trump should acknowledge losing the presidential race to Joe Biden and end his legal challenges. “I personally believe that it would be much more reasonable to give up, not to be embarrassing, and allow the new president to take office,” Zeman told Parlamentni Listy. The Czech parliament has extended the state of emergency until December 12. The state of emergency provides a legal basis for tighter government measures aimed at curbing the spread of Covid-19, including temporary business closures and restrictions on the freedom of assembly. The government had earlier asked parliamentarians to approve a 30-day extension, to run until December 20. Prime Minister Andrej Babis said the extension was needed to deal a “decisive blow” to the infection. The opposition meanwhile criticized the government over shutting down smaller businesses at a time when larger retail networks were allowed to stay open. Vaccination of the population against the new type of coronavirus should reach 65 to 70 percent for efficacy, stated the Czech Health Minister Jan Blatný. The Czech Republic is interested in 4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the American company Pfizer, which would be enough for 2 million people.
