Three countries have decided to tighten measures for Czech citizens due to the epidemiological situation in the Czech Republic as the daily increase in coronavirus cases in recent weeks is about 200, much more than at the beginning of July. During Thursday night, Slovenia became the latest country to change the rules for Czechs and, suddenly, put the Czech Republic on the list of medium-risk countries. Upon entering the country, a two-week quarantine is mandatory for Czech citizens. If they only need to pass through the country, this restriction does not apply to them, but the transit must not exceed 12 hours, the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its website. On Thursday, Norway also imposed restrictions on the Czechs – they have to spend ten days in quarantine after entering the Scandinavian country. Oslo placed Czechia on the traffic-light system “red” list together with France, Switzerland, and Monaco. Norwegians are also advised to travel to these four countries only when necessary. International rescue workers and aid have begun arriving in the ruins of Beirut, joining local teams combing the rubble for signs of life after a huge explosion on Tuesday destroyed swaths of Lebanon’s capital. “The safety situation in the area is stable. All members of the team are fine. After yesterday’s deployment, we record minor injuries to two dogs,” says firefighter spokeswoman Nicole Studená. Today, Czech firefighters plan to move to a new area, and the transportation will be provided by the Lebanese army. The EU gathered emergency workers and equipment from across the 27-nation bloc and was urgently sending more than 100 firefighters with vehicles, sniffer dogs and equipment designed to find people trapped in urban areas. Forty specialists from the Czech USAR (Urban Search and Rescue Team) arrived in Lebanon on Wednesday. The Baba ruins on a hill on the left bank of the Vltava River is a place of unclear origin with a unique and far view of Prague. There are several theories about the origin of the ruins. Supposedly it is the remains of a vineyard press from the 17th century from the vineyard that was located here. However, according to other sources, it is a ruin of a chapel, or a newer Romanesque building from the beginning of the 19th century, which was completed with Gothic-style windows. Baba is a part of city district Dejvice in Prague 6. It is situated on a rocky hill of the same name, some 264 – 267 m above the sea on the left bank of the Vltava River and next to the neighboring Hanspaulka. The name Baba has already been documented in the 15th century. The area was settled as early as in the Younger Stone Age, which is documented by numerous archaeological findings from the 1970’s. A play written entirely by artificial intelligence is expected to premiere next January. Researcher Rudolf Rosa of Charles University said his team is working together with Svanda Theater and the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague on the project, dubbed THEaiTRE. Rosa said the idea was suggested by entrepreneur Tomas Studenik as a means of celebrating the 100th anniversary of R.U.R., aka Rossum’s Universal Robots, a 1921 play by Karel and Josef Capek that is credited with originating the term “robot.” The main limiting factor at the moment is that the existing model has not yet been trained to produce performance-suitable scripts, so the plan is for researchers to “feed” the AI with plays for it to learn from. The model essentially takes a small chunk of existing text (in this case, Čapek’s original play) and then is “inspired” to create further lines, themes and ideas. “Tomas thought that this should be properly celebrated and came up with the idea of turning the story around: 100 years ago, a man wrote a theater play about robots; what if today, robots wrote a theater play about men?” Rosa said. If you want to see what life was like in Prague at the turn of the 20th century, take a trip through the historic centre of town in a vintage tram! Prague residents and tourists will be able to ride the oldest city tram. The model car 88 was produced in 1900 during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and ran through Prague streets until 1967. Prague Public Transport (DPP) organizes four trips – two on 19 September and two on the following day. The exact tram route will be published in the upcoming weeks. Increasing coronavirus infections in the Czech Republic are likely to result in Norway applying travel restrictions to the country this week. The move was signalled on Monday by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (NIPH), which published similar notifications in July before restrictions were applied to travellers from Spain and Belgium. Norway’s health authorities designated EEA and Schengen countries as ‘green’ or ‘red’ depending on current infection rates. To remain ‘green’, the figure must be under 20 infections per 100,000 residents in total over the past two weeks. Once a country is ‘red’, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against travel that is not strictly necessary to that country, and self-quarantine is required for travellers returning or arriving from it. This also means people cannot travel from ‘red’ countries to Norway for tourism. NIPH said on Monday that it would recommend travel advisories for the Czech Republic to be changed to ‘red’ at the next update scheduled for later this week, unless any change in the situation occurs in the meantime. The final decision on travel advice is taken by the government based on NIPH assessments. Penta plans to build a new residential development on a brownfield site of almost 32,000 sq. m in Prague Nusle. The total investment should reach CZK 2 billion. Penta wants to use the former brewery site for a residential development, which should offer up to 400 apartments. The listed 17th-century brewery building will house office and retail space and when complete will give the area a completely new appearance, helping return it to its historic roots as a centrepoint of Nusle. Initial design studies feature a town square with cafés and restaurants and renewal of a street which used to cross the site. “We found the biggest opportunities in Prague were in brownfields,” said Petr Palicka, Penta’s managing director. “It is difficult to find an empty site in Prague or a city like it.” Probably by the end of the year, Penta should obtain the building permit.
