28 Arrested in Football Match riot in Prague

Police arrested 28 fans of Banik Ostrava in a riot after their team lost a match in Prague on Sunday afternoon. At Sparta football arena, the fans attacked the organizers and firefighters and they took beer barrels from a fast food stall and threw them at other spectators. Five organizers and one policeman were injured and one of the organizers had to be sent to the hospital, according to a report of Czech News Agency. Banik lost the first football league 2019 match against Sparta Praha 0:2 Sunday afternoon. The matches between Sparta and Banik were considered risky because of possible fights between the fans. Before the game, the fans of Banik Ostrava marched to the stadium with the accompany of police. The march and the match itself passed without serious problems. The riot began after Sparta won the match.

Czech Scientists Find Way to Extract Water From Air

A team of scientists from the Technical University in Prague have said they found a method of extracting water from air using an autonomous solar-powered system. The first prototype of Solar Air Water Earth Resource (SAWER) has the capacity to produce 100 liters of drinking water per day anywhere on the planet, even in the desert. The experts installed SAWER in the United Arab Emirates’ town of Sweihan, located about 70 km east of Abu Dhabi. “It is not a revolutionary process, but an unusual one,” civil and environmental engineering professor Tomáš Matuška told Efe news, adding it used dehumidifiers that are often employed in the food industry. Matuška explained that the two-stage system consists of a desiccant that holds water molecules on its surface and then an air heater produces water vapor to be taken back to the surface. A group of 12 scientists started the project in Prague in 2017 and created the first prototype that can be transported in two six-meter-long cargo containers. One of the containers holds the production unit including distilled water equipment, while the second contains the accumulators to boost heat and cold processes, as well as energy control systems. A Prague Crocodile – Your Best Friend

Dagmar Herrmannova is originally from Prague and is an expert in educating deaf and special needs children. In 2002, she started her charity work with all this energy. What was a project first turned quickly into an organization called SMILING CROCODILE. When I met her first, I could feel the positive energy surrounding her but also how humble she is despite all the great things she is doing with her team. What is SMILING CROCODILE all about? Based on Dagmar´s professional expertise, she gathered a team of other experts in order to help children with special needs in disadvantaged situations. “There are schools and institutions that take care about these children,” she says “but there are also limits. Most of SMILING CROCODILE´s children need one-o-one care and this can´t be guaranteed at usual special care centres.” In 2012, she opened a special kindergarten and elementary school here in Prague in order to close this gap. At the moment, there is a group of 20 children enjoys the individual care and education they need. This goes beyond the various necessary therapies. U Zavěšenýho Kafe – Behind the Tourist Traps

I used to spend many wonderful moments in U Zavěšenýho Kafe a few years ago. Right at the foot of the hill near to the main tourist artery in Prague, Nerudova Street, it’s a stylish cafe with an unusual habit – but more about that later. I think you might appreciate the cafe after climbing up to the castle and wandering around Novy Svet. This cafe is also my recommendation, especially if the tourist trap cafes with low spirits are not tempting for you. During the week, the chef prepares lunch specials for great prices (from 12:00 – 14:00). Apart from lunchtime, you have a wide choice of nice meals. On tap there’s Czech beer and wine and the variety of coffee and drinks on the menu should satisfy almost anyone. Since we’re mentioning the coffee, I must reveal the unusual habit of this cafe…or better not. It is a really precious habit and maybe it is better if you find out for yourselves. Burčák Season is Coming!

Wine harvest is in full swing throughout September and October, but Burčák season has officially started. “Burčák” is partially fermented young wine and it is a very popular drink in Moravia, Austria, and Bavaria. This alcoholic wine drink is produced when pressed grape juice is partially fermented. Its consumption is typically connected with the first autumn days. The law states that to be labeled a Burčák, the product has to be made of Czech or Moravian fruits and can only be sold between August 1 and November 30 of the year. The drink is considered to be a national treasure. Moravians are very passionate about the drink and claim that drinking seven liters per year guarantees good health in the upcoming year! The first burčák has gone on sale in South Moravia. Among those offering the fermented young wine is Miloslav Machuča from Valtice, who began selling it on Friday.  To enjoy a fresh glass of Burčák in Prague, one can take part in popular wine festivals called Vinobraní.
