Prague’s Lennon Wall Transformed on the 43rd Anniversary of John Lennon’s Death

On the 43rd anniversary of John Lennon’s death, Prague artists undertook the redesign of the iconic Lennon Wall, breathing new life into its historical significance. The graffiti-laden Lennon Wall in Prague served as a beacon of freedom during the final decade of communism. In September 2022, artists from across Europe embarked on a transformative project during the Czech EU Council Presidency to revamp the wall. At the core of this artistic endeavor was a three-meter mirror portraying John Lennon. Even today, the Lennon Wall stands as a powerful symbol of freedom of expression. Immediately following its redesign, visitors from around the globe began adorning it with messages and stickers. Over time, the portrait of Lennon became concealed beneath a multitude of stickers, according to Pavel Šťastný, a Prague-based artist and the campaign’s initiator. On December 8, 2023, marking the 43rd anniversary of John Lennon’s passing and the inception of the Lennon Wall in Prague, Šťastný and a group of friends painted a new portrait of Lennon over the accumulated stickers and slogans. The refreshed Lennon Wall now emanates a renewed radiance, serving as a living testament to the enduring creative freedom and inspirational impact of John Lennon’s legacy.

Rare Palawan Porcupine Baby Born at Prague Zoo

Ababy Palawan porcupine was born at Prague Zoo. Visitors can observe the two-week-old addition and both of its parents in the zoo’s “Indonesian Jungle” Pavilion. The young is valuable for breeding, as this species endemic to the Philippine island of Palawan is the only non-American porcupine species listed on the Red List of Threatened Species. Hunting and deforestation are the reasons for its declining numbers. “The birth of a cub is great news because out of only nine zoos that keep this species in Europe, we are one of two where a cub was born this year,” said Prague Zoo’s curator of mammals, Pavel Brandl. “The reason for joy is also the fact that we did not have too high hopes for the birth of another healthy offspring from our older, already deserving female.” This is the tenth cub of this species born in the zoo since breeding began in 2015. Jesus and Strip Clubs: Prague Tram Ads Stir Controversy

The city government is asking residents for their views on the matter. Recent advertising images featuring the image of Jesus Christ plastered on the side of Prague trams have caught the attention of none other than the deputy mayor of the Czech capital, Zdenek Hřib. The local politicians also found it strange and troubling that public transport should be used to advertise controversial things, like a strip club. Should there be trams running through Prague that will entice people to go to an erotic club? Spectacular Ice Sculpture Exhibition Opens in Prague’s Riegrovy Sady

GALLERY: Prague Welcomes the New Rajská Zahrada Railway Station

On Sunday, December 10, the newly inaugurated Rajská zahrada railway station started operations in Prague. Trains now make frequent stops every 10-15 minutes during rush hours and 15-30 minutes on weekends. The station serves as a stop for all suburban trains, including S2, S3, S9, S22, and S34, traveling from Masaryk Station towards Kolín, Melník, and Milovice. Access to the platform is exclusively available through a pedestrian bridge connected to the Hutě neighborhood. Anticipated in the first quarter of 2024 is the completion of the second segment of the bridge, extending over Chlumecká Street to the Rajská zahrada metro station.

James Bond is Here! Exhibition of 007’s Cars for the First Time in Prague

Prague 7 (or as we could refer to as Prague 007) is currently showcasing over 75 original exhibits from James Bond movies. Legendary cars, as well as planes, helicopters, and maritime and space vessels used by Her Majesty’s agents, from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig, can be found in the 3,000 square meters space. Each exhibit comes with not only a description but also a screen showing how the particular vehicle or prop was used in the film. Prague Ranked First Among the European Cities with the Best Nightlife

A recent ranking by OLBG has unveiled the European cities with the most vibrant nightlife, a placement many did not expect for Prague. The list was compiled based on sources such as TripAdvisor and AirDNA, looking into factors such as reviews, beer prices, hotel rates, and taxi fares, while also taking into account the number of nightclubs, bars, and casinos. With a score of 8.44 out of 10, Prague grabbed the top spot. The city boasts one of the cheapest domestic beers in Europe, a plethora of activities and events, and secured its position as one of the safest cities on the list. Bratislava secured the second spot with a score of 8.16 out of 10. The Slovak capital received high ratings across all categories, benefiting from low Airbnb prices, affordable domestic beer, and taxi services. Prague City Hall: No Fireworks on New Year’s Eve

Prague will not once again not hold its traditional New Year’s fireworks show on January 1, and the city is not planning any alternative event. The Czech capital did not host its annual fireworks show in 2021 or 2022 due to the pandemic and related restrictions. In 2020, the use of firecrackers and fireworks was banned in selected places, such as historic city districts, parks, nature-protected areas, around watercourses, near retirement homes and other social care facilities, and also in the vicinity of the Prague Zoo. However, the city is instead offering residents a discounted admission fee to several Prague attractions on New Year’s Day. Locals will be able to visit the zoo and botanical gardens for practically free, only paying a symbolic CZK 1 entry fee, and can see the Public Transport Museum and the seven towers managed by Prague City Tourism for a discounted price. December 24: Warm Up With a Free Bowl of Christmas Soup in Old Town Square

Old Town Square will again serve free fish soup from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to anyone who wants some.
