U19 Football Tournament CEE Cup to Start on Friday, July 28

The Brazilians and the English are slowly packing their bags to come over to Prague, the Czech teams are addressing the last question-marks in the composition of their teams. There is only one week left until the kick-off of the eleventh edition of the CEE Cup, the most important domestic youth tournament for under-19 footballers. The first match on Friday, July 28, at 15:00 at Sparta’s Strahov Training Centre will offer a spicy fight between the home team and West Ham United, with which it is connected by common ownership ties. All teams will stay at the Don Giovanni hotel on the border between Žižkov and Vinohrady, and in between matches they will train at the Sparta and Slavia training centres. “We don’t organize any accompanying program for them, but on their free day, they usually go to the city centre for dinner. Meetings with representatives of the various Embassies are also planned,” says the tournament director, Roberto De Blasio. New Footbridge Connecting Holešovice and Karlín Districts to Open on Friday

Jan Čižinský, the mayor of Prague 7, recently announced on social media that the long-awaited Štvanice footbridge will finally open on Friday, 28 July, at noon. Designed to link the districts of Holešovice and Karlín, the footbridge’s construction commenced in January, with architect Adam Gebrian confirming the Friday launch date. With a length of approximately 300 meters and a budget of around CZK 300 million, the Štvanice footbridge serves to facilitate pedestrian and cyclist access to the Štvanice island while also enhancing connectivity between the city’s districts. The need for ferry services, currently operating to establish the connection, will cease following the footbridge’s inauguration. On the Holešovice bank of the Vltava River, the footbridge will originate from Bubenské nábřeží, located in front of the entrance to the Prague Market Hall. On the Karlín side, it will lead to a cycle path running alongside the flood barrier on Rohanské nábřeží. Prague City is Looking for New Contractor to Revamp Masaryk Railway Station

The revitalization project for Masaryk Railway Station in Prague is set to commence soon, with the Railway Administration announcing a tender to find a contractor who will blend historical charm with contemporary architecture, aiming to enhance passenger comfort at the city’s oldest station. A key highlight of the development will be the construction of a pedestrian platform above the railway tracks, connecting Florenc to the main station and ensuring convenient access to individual platforms. Petřín Cable Car Marks Huge Milestone: 80 Million Passengers Transported

The iconic funicular leading to Petřín, achieved a remarkable feat today, as it welcomed its 80 millionth passenger. This year alone, the Petřín cable car has transported over 1 million passengers, and in the previous year, it saw more than 1.708 million passengers. However, the peak record was established in the pre-Christmas year of 2019, when an astonishing 2.230 million passengers experienced the cable car’s scenic journey. Prices of New Flats in Prague Started to Stagnate

The real estate market for new apartments in Prague has shown signs of stagnation as prices remain unchanged despite an increase in sales. The market experienced a historic decline last year but is now showing signs of recovery. During the first half of this year, sales of new flats in Prague remained almost identical to the figures from the same period last year, with a total of 1,560 new flats being sold – just 20 more than the previous year. This marks the lowest levels of sales in two decades for the city. However, a closer analysis of the first and second quarters reveals a positive trend. In the first quarter, only 540 new flats were sold, which was one of the lowest results in the history of market monitoring. The 1950s. Modern Czech Historical Revisionism on Full Display

The building is home to a plethora of halls that display centuries of both natural sciences and social change, dating back to the 1880s. One of the newest exhibits, however, looks at a moment in history often buried. The ‘50s is a decade often narrowed to the totalitarian rule that occurred from 1948 to 1953, but Professor Mikhal Stehlik, Deputy Director of the Museum, hopes to focus on the decade as a whole in a new exhibit. While the fifties were a decade of dictatorship and totalitarianism, he explained, they were also a time of great change that impacted the entire twentieth century. Deputy Mayor for Transport Wants to Significantly Reduce Cars in Prague

The former Prague mayor and current Prague deputy mayor for transport Zdeněk Hřib (Piráti) is planning drastic changes for Prague’s car traffic. Cirk La Putyka and Finnish director Maksim Komaro are celebrating the essence of circus in their latest performance, “Senses.” This captivating production combines various circus disciplines and theatrical genres, such as aerial and ground acrobatics, teeterboard jumps, juggling, pantomime, contemporary dance, magic, clowning, and object work. With nine performers and contributions from Finnish creators, including choreographer Ilona Jäntti and lighting designer Juho Rahijärvi, “Senses” captures the free, playful, funny, and imaginative nature of the circus. July 18, 1891 was one of the most important days not only in the history of Prague’s public transport. The first Czech electric tram on Letná in Prague (Electric Railway on Letná in Prague) was put into operation. This line led from the upper terminal of the Letná funicular to the pavilion of the Jubilee Exhibition through Ovenecká street. After two more years, this line was extended to the Governor’s Villa, a further distance of 1.4 km. In 1896, on 19 March, František Křižík opened a second, more important tram line, which lead from Florenc to Libeň and Vysočany, joining the industrial suburbs of Prague with its residential area in the center. In the long term, the Edvard Beneš embankment under Prague’s Letná will belong more to cars or moored boats than to people. According to architects Miroslav Krátký and Tomáš Jan Cieśla (Archicraft), this is a pity.
