The long-gestating The Crow reboot is one step closer to taking flight. A new take on The Crow is finally coming to life, with Bill Skarsgård (IT) leading the cast as Eric Draven and singer/actor FKA Twigs co-starring. Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) is directing the “modern reimagining” of James O’Barr’s comic, with Zach Baylin (King Richard) writing. In a fresh article over at Deadline, they report that FilmNation Entertainment is handling the project at the Cannes Market and that filming is now lined up to take place this coming summer in Prague and Germany (various locations). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is currently “well into pre-production” in Prague, with the shoot scheduled to begin in June. Home of Slavia Praha, the venue was opened by Vladimír Šmicer in 2008 and has since staged several significant matches at club and international levels. The stadium can accommodate 20,800 spectators. The 2013 UEFA Super Cup took place at the Eden Arena, Bayern defeating Chelsea 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw over 120 minutes, and it also went the distance two years later in the 2015 U21 EURO final, Sweden seeing off Portugal 4-3 on spot-kicks. Prague Pride, the organization behind the Prague Pride Festival, is teaming up with The Gay Agenda to celebrate the beginning of Pride Month on June 4th. Although most people know Prague Pride as the driving force behind the Prague Pride Festival held annually in August, June is also an important time of year for the queer community. June has been the traditional month to honor LGBT+ history since the Stonewall Riots in New York City in June 1969. The Stonewall Riots, led mostly by trans women of color, was the revolutionary beginning to the Gay Rights Movement in the United States. June is designated as Pride Month to honor and remember those who took part in the Stonewall Riots and to remind the contemporary queer community about their own current struggles for equality. As an extra treat, 10% of ticket sales from the show will also be donated to Prague Pride’s new LGBT Center, The Rainbow House. On Saturday, the 14th of May, Prague Castle will officially open the summer tourist season. The seat of the Czech heads of state is on this day open to visitors completely for free. The representative spaces in the New Palace are usually not open to visitors. This year marks the 80th anniversary of Operation Anthropoid, – the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, acting Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia and the third highest-ranking Nazi. The capital, in cooperation with the city district of Prague 8, is planning a series of thematic events to commemorate this important landmark of the Second World War. The celebrations will take place on Friday and Saturday 27 and 28 May at the Operation Anthropoid Memorial in Libeň, in the grounds of the Great Löwit Mill and in Thomayer’s Orchards. The reconstruction of the assassination in Libeň will take place after 10:30am – the time when parachutists Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš attacked Heydrich’s vehicle. Military aircraft flyovers, including a World War II era Hawker Hurricane, will take place above the Anthropoid memorial in Libeň after which a commemorative act will be held, the Czech News Agency writes. The Prague Transport Company (DPP) will announce an international design competition for a more than two-kilometer-long cable car that will link Bohnice in Prague 8 and Podbaba in Prague 6. The DPP competition’s terms and conditions will be released early next week, and individuals interested can apply until the end of May. In August, the outcome should be known. Until the planned tram route is built, the cable car will provide a direct link between Prague 8 and Prague 6. The competition is open to all architects and studios who work on transportation structural design. The competition will be held in two rounds, with the jury selecting five advancers from the submitted portfolios to draft competition proposals by the end of July. The cable car’s course will have only one branch, and hence the rope will be driven in both sections by the same driving unit. In 2019, the Czech capital set a goal of planting a million new trees on its territory within eight years. Since the adoption of this plan, 370,000 new trees have been planted in Prague to date. These appear in emerging forest parks, city parks, orchards, and in the streets of the city. Trees play an irreplaceable role in adapting the city to climate change. “We also add trees to parks in the city centre, and plant them along brooks and ponds. City trees can also bear fruits, that is why we revitalize and set up orchards. Last year we planted a new and unique chestnut tree alley in Prague. Our goal is to add trees to the city streets. Several public facilities will open their doors to the general public for free: Hrzánský palác The Czech government invites you to visit the interiors of the Hrzánský palác. From 1894 to 1896 there lived the future first president of Czechoslovakia Tomas Garrigue Masaryk. Today the building serves presentation purposes – here the Czech Premier welcomes important guests. Soviet military commander Ivan Konev may be stripped of his honorary citizenship in Prague city, the Czech News Agency reported. This initiative was launched by the mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib. Next Monday, May 9, it will be considered by the city council. Konev, who led the Red Army’s liberation of Prague, became an honorary citizen of the city in June 1945. A street in the Žižkov district is named after him and there have been calls to rename it in recent years. “The act of conferring honorary citizenship should be considered in the context of the time and further historical development of Czechoslovakia. The seventh annual Beer and Burger (‘Pivo a Burger’) Festival will return to Karlínské náměstí on May 22, from 11 am. A total of 25 burger stands will be operating throughout the day, including many of the Czech favorite food trucks and burger joints. You can taste burgers from several Karlin restaurants but also some of Prague’s highest-rated burgers, like, Mozaika, Kaiser Franz, Hell Smoke, Take Eat Ez and many others. Serving up beer during the fest will be 23 craft brewers from Prague and across the Czech Republic, including favorites like Matuška, Clock, Raven, Albrecht, and many more, with over 100 beers on offer.
